Kyoto Kyoto-shi Higashiyama-ku Higashiyama Gojo Agaru Yugyomaecho 583-1
This gallery is ten minutes' walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station or ten minutes' drive from Kyoto station. It's at the entrance of Gojozaka, known as the origin of Kiyomizu ware, and displays new pieces from workshops with long years of experience at the traditional development and young potters active in Kyoto. The naturally lit interior and chance to get a feel for the various facets of Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware make this gallery quite attractive. They also have regular solo and special exhibits, carry out Kyo ware manufacture demonstrations, and can be used as a base for educating new, young potters and raising successors.

Started the morning here because it was right where the bus dropped us off... Nice stuff if you like ceramic collectables

"A boutique pottery, souvenir, and gift shop located a six-minute walk from the ""Kiyomizu-michi"" bus stop. The shop carries original pottery creations and Kyoto goods and also offers fun and casual ceramics classes in a pottery studio which makes famous Kyoto Kiyomizu ware. Classes include making a mug by hand using a hand-turned wheel, and decorating an unglazed piece of pottery such as a yunomi teacup, mug, or rice bowl. The shop also sells cute Kyoto knickknacks and accessories as well as its own original ceramic lampshades which shine with the traditions of Kiyomizu ware and the skills of master artisans."

    清水坂途中にある陶器のお店。坂沿いにあるショーケースには、清水焼の照明陶器が、可愛かった。更にこのお店は、うさぎデザインに力を入れているようで、うさぎ柄の沢山のお土産が売られている。

This is a Kyoto souvenir selection shop on Kiyomizu Saka, the pilgrimage route to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto's Higashiyama district. The main shop has original porcelain, and Kyoto-only knickknacks on display and sale, and the shop across the street offers a range of edible treats, including snacks to take on your stroll like boten fried fishcake on a stick or steamed hokamanju buns. They also sell Kyoto pickles and treats, Uji tea, yatsuhashi cookies, and other Kyoto specialties. In summer they have smoothies and frozen fruit treats to cool you down on your trek to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The shop also has a dining area so you can sit and enjoy your purchases indoors.

This historical potter is about five minutes' walk from Inari station, and is marked by the red noren curtain. It was founded about 1750, and continues to produce the same clay toys and Fushimi dolls as it did in its late-Edo period height. Fushimi dolls are said to be the origins of all the 90 varieties of ceramic doll in Japan. There are about 2,000 varieties of prototype and mold, and most of them preserve the style and tradition of their age. Each face is filled with character, ranging from humor to charm, and each exudes naive artlessness that makes them popular with people from all over the world.

This Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki pottery shop is in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. They sell authentic Kyoto pottery, working with the concept of harmony between the traditional and the modern. They deal in art ceramics and more common items like tea cups and pots that are great for gifts, as novelty items, and more.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
