"A three-minute walk from the ""Kitano Tenmangu-mae"" and ""Kamishichiken"" bus stops. This beer garden is located on the grounds of the Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater. The beer garden is open from early July through early September, excluding the Bon Festival period. There are no designated seating areas and seats are distributed throughout the garden to the balustrade and the parlor and building. Customers, however, cannot choose where they will sit and are instead seated by staff. Geisha and maiko who perform in the theater walk around the beer garden dressed in costume and hand out ""senjafuda"" business cards which are considered good luck charms. In addition to a required initial beer set, the garden serves a variety of beverages and a la carte foods."

As they head to the market to buy fresh ingredients on a daily basis their recommended specialties also change daily. While calling themselves an izakaya pub their dishes are at the level of a traditional Japanese restaurant and sure to leave you completely satisfied. Their specialty menu item is Shinme, a unique warm-sake blend of six different types of Japanese sake.

This is an old Kyoto-style tsukemono (pickled vegetables) shop established in 1879 and located a three minute-walk along Senbon-dori Street from Senbon Imadegawa bus stop. The shop’s exterior with its large noren curtains has classic Kyoto charm. Aside from being able to buy seasonal Kyoto tsukemono, at lunch (only) the shop offers tatami “chazuke seats” inside for eating chazuke (rice with tea poured on). From the partition in the tatami room one can glimpse the washbasin and look out over the typical Kyoto machiya inner garden while dining—the height in sophistication. Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
