  • Amanohashidate Sesshukan Tembo Rest Area
    Travel / Tourism
    Kyoto Miyadushi Shishizaki
"An observatory situated past the red torii gates on the approach to Shiizaki Inari Shrine south along Prefectural Route 605 from the Amanohashidate Marina. The name of the observatory is derived from a painting designated a National Treasure created by the ancient master painter Sesshu. The famous scenery visible from here resembles Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three most picturesque areas, and thus began being called the ""Sesshukan"" (""Sesshu's View"") after the artist's renowned painting of Amanohashidate. The Sesshukan has been designated one of the 10 Views of Amanohashidate. The entirety of Miyazu Bay is visible from here, as well, and, in addition, in late April, visitors can enjoy the sight of blooming Rhododendron dilatatum."
  • Kabutoyama Observatory Deck
    Travel / Tourism
    Kyoto Kyoutangoshi Kumihamachou Mukoi
This observation deck is on the summit of Mt. Kabuto in Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture. The viewpoint overlooks the Tango Peninsula with Kumihama Bay, the Sea of Japan, and the rural landscape unfolding below. You can drive to the observation deck, but since the road is rather narrow, we recommend walking up via the hiking trail.
  • Tango Matsushima
    Travel / Tourism
    Kyoto Kyoutangoshi Tangochoukonoshiro
This viewing spot is located in Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture. It received its name because it resembles the landscape of Matsushima, one of the Three Views of Japan. It is also chosen at one of Kyoto's Best 200 Natural Sites for the islands that can be seen from Inugamisaki Cape to Kyogamisaki Cape and the view of the sandy beach coastline. In addition, nearby there is a beach for bathing and a walking path that goes from the Inugamisaki Park parking lot to Inugamisaki Cape.

    Kyoto Muko-shi Mukocho Minamiyama 82-1

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
