This is an old-fashioned retro-western style restaurant that was opened more than 50 years ago in 1967. Demi-glace sauce made from variety of vegetables is abundantly used in most dishes on the menu. The omelet with rice, a popular menu, can be selected from three sizes: small, medium, or large. On the menu besides omelet, visitors can enjoy fried shrimp, fried chicken and hearty hamburg stake.

We tried the omurice, chicken Cutlet, beef hash on rice and the croquette. They were ok. Not bad. But nothing to queue for.

This dining bar and cafe is in the New Miyako Hotel. RONDE provides a mature experience of the essence of Japan with Kyoto dining. The lunch menu changes monthly and they have a choice buffet and ladies' lunch. It's chic yet with hearty portions, and the reasonable prices keep it popular. Their excellent Ronde Burger comes recommended. Limited to 10 a day, it's made with a 120-gram domestic beef patty.

The selection of breakfast food was very dissapointing. If it wasnt included in the booking, we weould have eaten somewhere else.

"This ""wine dining"" restaurant is a proponent of ""bishoku danran,"" which means ""great food and good times."" The restaurant's interior is lit in warm colors and features counter seating on the first floor as well as table seating and private rooms on the second floor. This rather stylish hamburger steak restaurant is located in the Ichijioji neighborhood of Sakyo Ward. Its incredibly juicy hamburger steaks are grilled on an iron griddle and served with your choice of sauce. Each comes on a bed of Kyoto bean sprouts that are delicious in their own right. The restaurant's weekday-only Loco Moco lunches feature a fried egg on top of a hamburger steak served on butter rice. They also come with seasonal salad and grilled vegetables, miso soup, an espresso, and a dessert, making them an incredible bargain.

This restaurant offers a full range of orthodox western-style dishes including hamburger steaks, fried shrimp, and beef stew. The restaurant, which makes all of their sauces, dressings, mayonnaise, and breading by hand, puts much time and effort into its many dishes. Each of them has a gentle and nostalgic taste. It is easy to see why the restaurant, which is one of the most popular Western-style restaurants in Kyoto, has so many repeat customers.

This European restaurant opened in 1970 inside of a renovated Iberian-style house originally built in 1929 to house the art collection of the Japanese-style painter Hashimoto Kansetsu. The restaurant's freshly-boiled pasta and its homemade pizza have been beloved since its opening. Guests can enjoy these and other items in the restaurant's open garden, which is surrounded by flowers.

    Kyoto Kyoto-shi Yamashina-ku Takehanatakenokaidocho 43
A western-style restaurant popular for its bubbling beef stew. The potatoes, carrots, onions, and large chunks of meet bubbling about the earthenware pot give the appearance of the name of the shop, Honoo no Ike (Lake of Fire). Their demi-glace sauce is a masterpiece that takes three days to make and is rich with just the right touch of sweetness. They also offer other western staples including gratin, fried shrimp, beef tenderloin steak, and kohlrouladen (white stew stuffed cabbage rolls). The classical wood grain interior of the shop gives a classic western-restaurant feel and you can enjoy all sorts of sauces and dressings with a variety of hand made dishes.

This Spanish bar next to the Kawaramachi-Oike intersection was opened by a former Italian chef who fell in love with Spanish bars while on a trip and decided to open one in his hometown of Kyoto. It is notable for the prodigious use of seasonal ingredients in its dishes. The bar's broad menu includes classic Spanish tapas, pasta, wild game dishes, and their classic Poquito salad, a simple salad of vegetables dressed with olive oil and salt. The simplicity allows the inherent flavor of the vegetables to be fully appreciated, making it one of the most popular items on the menu since the restaurant opened.

This Italian restaurant is less about choosing a dish from a menu, and more about the day's fresh seafood, seasonal ingredients, and recommended cooking style. The wide, stylish interior is hard to imagine from the stately exterior, and the luxurious wood grain, along with the lack of set menu, help this shop really stand out. The staff offer excellent explanations of the day's food, and customers only need to give their preferences or mood to get the perfect dish. They also have a sommelier-selected wine list to pair with their dishes for a bit of grown-up fun.

Kyoto Main Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
