    Shiga Konan-shi Ameyama 2-1-1
"An eight-minute drive from Ishibe Station on the JR Kusatsu Line. This mini ""theme park,"" located in Ameyama Cultural Sports Park, recreates the Edo period post station town of Ishibe, which bustled as one of the famous 53 stations of the Tokaido Highway. Past the checkpoint barrier at the entrance, you'll find a stone-paved townscape lined with late Edo period farming and merchant homes, an inn, and a teahouse. Each has been recreated in exacting detail, even the unique architecture of the homes of the time, which were long and narrow to reduce taxes and known as ""eel beds"" due to their shape resembling eel traps. Visitors can also view the inside of the buildings and see the implements people of the time used as part of everyday life, as well as exhibits on period folk culture and customs."

This pottery studio has been in business since around 1750 and is the only pottery studio to have passed down the techniques of Omi Shimoda-yaki pottery in an unbroken line. Designated a Traditional Craft by Shiga Prefecture, Shimoda-yaki is characterized by its simple designs and use of a deep blue hue called ""Gosu."" Newness and novelty resides in the traditional, charming simplicity of Shimoda-yaki, and Shimoda-yaki plates, teacups, bowls, and other tableware is perfect not only for everyday use but also for entertaining guests and for giving as gifts and souvenirs. The studio also offers teacup and plate painting activities and pottery making activities as well. Both types of activities require a reservation made at least two weeks in advance."

An eight-minute walk from Kosei Station on the JR Kusatsu Line. This longstanding sake company brewery stands in between Minakuchi-shuku and Ishibe-shuku, two old post station towns situated along the former Tokaido Highway which once served as a key transportation hub connecting the eastern and western parts of the country. Using underground spring water from the Suzuka Mountains and supreme sake rice grown on the Omi Plain, known for its exceptional rice growing conditions, the company's signature Miyosakae brand of authentic sakes are fermented and stored entirely at low temperatures and are renowned for their unbelievably delicious flavor. The company's new Kitajima brand, meanwhile, is a back to basics series of sakes made according to the traditional kimoto-zukuri method, the origin of all other sake making methods, and are notable for their smooth and intense flavor. The brewery offers sake samples and sells sake, and also offers brewery tours (advance reservation required).

The only reason Senso-ji gets a 4 is because of how busy it was you could hardly get through the crowds to get to it. When you did though the temple was very good, I would still say worth a visit.
