    A Buddhist temple located Matsuoji, Aisho Town, Echi County, Shiga Prefecture. The temple was founded by the great priest Gyoki in 741. Together with the Tendai Buddhist Saimyoji Temple and the Hyakusaiji Temple, also located in the Koto area, this temple is counted as one of the “Three Temples of Koto.” The main hall, built during the Kamakura period to commemorate victory during the Mongol invasion, is designated a National Treasure. The garden of the Myojuin Temple located on the grounds is designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty.

    This is a temple of the Otani sect of Shinshu that has long been fondly known by the nickname of “Gobo-san”, whose origins lie in its establishment on the site of Nagahama Castle in 1602. Thereafter, it was moved to its current location in 1652. You can catch a glimpse of the splendid Momoyama culture in the main hall and the banquet hall which are said to be the remains of Fushimi castle and have been designated as National Important Cultural Properties. Within the temple grounds, there is also Ganzanken Japanese Garden, a kanshoshiki kare-sansui (“dry landscape”) garden, and there is also the Rantei Japanese Garden which is a National Place of Scenic Beauty. The temple is famous for having a great number of cultural properties such as paintings on paper sliding doors and screens.

    A Buddhist temple located in Ishiyamauchihata-cho, Otsu City. The temple was founded in 722 by Empress Gensho. The 12th temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, since ancient times this temple, along with Kumano and Yoshino, has been counted as one of the three most sacred places in Japan. The temple’s principal object of worship, a 1,000 armed figure of Kannon, is known by many names, including the “Sweating Kannon,” the “Daftness-Preventing Kannon,” and the “Lightening Protection Kannon.” There is also a pond located on the grounds known as “Basho’s Pond” because it is said that the celebrated ancient haiku poet Matsuo Basho composed his “Frog Poem,” one of his most famous, here.

    無料シャトルバスが運行しない日だった為、車で参拝しました。週末であっても普段の参拝者は少ないようで、西国三十三ヶ所巡りと思われる参拝者が時々訪れる程度となっていました。

    三井アウトレットパーク滋賀竜王へ行った足で、道の駅も行ってきました。 動物のふれあい広場があったり、目の前には池があったりして、のんびりできました。

    A roadside station situated along the Happu Highway in Tatehata-cho, Higashiomi City. The station operates out of the former Mandokoro Junior High School building. The station sells local specialty products such as Mandokoro tea and Eigenji konnyaku devil's tongue jelly. There are also two restaurants serving dishes such as Omi beef rice bowls and “Eigenji Dam Curry” modeled after the Eigenji Dam. In addition, there’s a small museum corner with aquariums containing fish from the Echi River and Lake Biwa as well as exhibits on traditional local unpainted wooden crafts.

    石榑峠にトンネルが開通してから八風街道の利用頻度が上がりました。こちらはトンネルと永源寺門前の中間あたりに位置する廃校を利用した施設で、道の駅のみならず役所の支所や診療所なども併設されています。域内を回る自動運転バス実証実験の拠点でもあります。 物販は質量ともにこれといった売りに乏しいですが、付近の紅葉を愛でながらの休憩は悪くありません。

    滋賀県内にあるヴォーリズ建築の中でも大きな施設。平日は公共施設や図書館に利用されており施設の維持管理は大変だと思います。映画のロケやアニメの舞台になるなど素晴らしい建築物です。

There’s also adjoining tofu, bread, mochi, and gelato workshops. The station’s restaurant serves set meals made with tofu made in the station’s tofu workshop. The station is situated close to the Tokaido Shinkansen tracks, and diners in the station’s restaurant can enjoy their meal along with the sight of Shinkansen trains running by at 275 kilometers per hour.

    ランチに日替わり定食をいただきました。 野菜が豊富で家庭料理のよう、とても美味しかったです。 あまり広い道の駅ではないので、昼時になるとほぼ満席に近いです。 野菜売り場は昼食後に見ると、すでに品薄でした。 残念なのは最後立ち寄ったトイレ! 今時 和式がメインで汚れがひどい…奥にある洋式の扉が閉まっていたのを恐る恐る開けたら…また酷い(ーー;) 惜しいです。

In the adjoining Mizu no Eki Koryukan building, you can find fresh baked breads for sale and exhibits on the history and culture of the local area.

    We took a rest at this road station. Shiso (red perilla) juice gave me nice refreshment! You can see and buy local foods and natural products here. I bought plant prop made of bamboo.

    琵琶湖畔から外れ、山の中に入ってすぐ、高台にきれいな道の駅があります。個々の大きさ、ちょうどいいと思います。大型車も入りやすそうですし、普通車も快適。お店もきれいで、ちょうどよい大きさ。野菜もあります、このあたりの名物のお弁当も沢山あります。そのうえ安い!

    A National Historic Site located in 1 Chome Kusatsu, Kusatsu City. This honjin, or inn for government officials, was located in Kusatsujuku, a post station town which prospered due to its location at the confluence of the major Tokaido and Nakasendo Highways. During its heyday, the inn lodged numerous famous samurai lords. The building contains exhibits on the history of Kusatsujuku, including an account book inscribed with the names of various famous historic figures. Traditional rakugo comedic storytelling performances are held each month in the adjoining Rakuzakan performance hall.

    JR草津駅から徒歩10分ほど。旧中山道と旧東海道が交わる、追分道標のすぐ近くにあります。建物じたいは復元されていますが、江戸時代大名が宿泊したところという、雰囲気は残っています。

In addition to the main hall with the largest class four-sided stage in western Japan, there is also a medium hall for stage drama and a small hall for smaller indoor concerts. Placed in a beautiful location on Lake Biwa, the theater is praised highly by international artists coming to perform in Japan. The hall has been selected as one of the ""hundred best halls"" in Japan by the Sound Engineers & Artists Society of Japan. A variety of performances, predominantly opera, ballet and classical concerts, are regularly held."

    子供のチアダンスの発表会で訪問しました。 開演前に各フロア回りましたが、4階は傾斜もあり、舞台からも遠いので、イマイチかと思います。 待合からすぐ近くに琵琶湖も眺めること出来ました。

    永源寺の近くにある温泉施設。紅葉狩りの後の一風呂は最高。露天風呂からは愛知川の流れを見ることができる。館内は清潔感があり、休憩室やレストランも完備している。帰りは近江八幡までの無料送迎バス(ただし本数は少ない)に乗せてもらった。

The museum contains exhibits on artifacts excavated from ancient burial mounds and historic sites such as the Dainaka-no-ko Konan Iseki ruins; fortresses and castles from the medieval to the modern period such as and the Kannonji Castle Ruins and the Azuchi Castle Ruins; and Oda Nobunaga, the mighty samurai lord who built Azuchi Castle. The museum also holds special exhibitions.

    If you do not read Japanese, be sure to pick up a leaflet at the museum which describes the three rooms. Two of the rooms are permanent exhibits and one has temporary exhibits. I enjoyed learning...

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
