The farm’s facilities also include a restaurant which serves dishes made with local agricultural products and wild game, a farm-fresh shop, a gelato shop, and a ground golf course.

    A farm situated along National Route 421 in Aono-cho, Higashiomi City. Here visitors can enjoy picking greenhouse-cultivated Akihime strawberries from January to May. The strawberries are grown approximately one meter off the ground, reducing the need to bend over to pick the berries. The nearby farm fresh store sells agricultural products and foods.

    A strawberry farm located in Takano Koka-cho, Koka City. The farm grows the popular Akihime strawberry variety inside greenhouses. From January to the late May, the farm offers a 30 minute all-you-can-eat strawberry picking course.

    時期的にどの農園も予約でいっぱいの中、何とか予約を取ることが出来ました。 人が少なく、貸しきりの様な時間帯もあり、ゆっくり食べることが出来ました。 1歳の娘も始めてのイチゴ狩りに大興奮していました♪

    This strawberry farm is located 20 minutes from the Ritto Interchange on the Meishin Expressway. Here you can enjoy strawberry picking each year from late December to early May. On spacious 8,500 square meter grounds, the farm grows its strawberries with reduced amounts of agricultural chemicals using mineral-rich deep ocean water, a natural Chinese medicine liquid, and beer yeast as fertilizer. The farm's strawberries are grown using raised planters standing around a meter off the ground, making it possible to pick them without bending over; they can also be eaten as-is without having to wash them. Thick tarps on the ground in the farm's greenhouses make it possible for wheelchair users and those pushing baby strollers to go strawberry picking as well.

    A blueberry farm located in Nakatara, Maibara City. From early July to mid-September, visitors can enjoy picking blueberries here. The adjoining Blueberry Chaya café serves items such as shaved ice covered with a special blueberry sauce. The farm also sells souvenirs and gifts like blueberry jam, blueberry sauce, and blueberry juice.
  • Omi Maiko Strawberry Farm

    A five-minute walk from JR Omi-Maiko Station, and a five-minute drive from the Omi-Maiko Ramp. This fruit farm can be reached by following the two lane road to the east of Otsu Municipal Komatsu Elementary School as it curves around west. The farm has received Shiga Prefecture Environmental Conservation Agricultural Produce certification. Here visitors can enjoy strawberry picking on a same day first-come, first-served basis in most years from early May, as well as reservation-only sweet potato digging and peanut digging in autumn. The farm has no set days or hours for these events, making it possible to come and do them anytime when in season. The farm also sells strawberry jam, cookies, and other foods; the farm's strawberry-stuffed daifuku rice cakes are only available on Saturdays and Sundays.

    This tourist vineyard is situated at the foot of Mt. Nanao. Individuals can easily go grape picking here without the need for an advance reservation. The farm makes use of large greenhouses, ensuring customers will stay dry even if it rains. The farm also has running water, toilets, and a rest area, enabling a relaxing visit. The grape varieties the farm grows include Early Steuben, Muscat Bailey A, and Sunny Rouge. Customers going grape picking can eat all the grapes they pick, and there's no time limit! Note, however, that you cannot take home the grapes you pick. Instead, the farm sells grapes perfect for bringing home as a souvenir at its own shop. In most years, the farm is open to tourists from early August to early October.

    A tourist fruit farm located in Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture. The farm primarily grows strawberries, and from April to mid-May, visitors can enjoy all-you-can-eat strawberry picking in the farm's greenhouses. All-you-can-eat strawberry picking is reservation-only and lasts 30 minutes. The strawberry varieties the farm grows include Akihime, Beni Hoppe, and Kaorino. In addition to locals, visitors from far and wide come here seeking the farm's generally large and highly sweet strawberries. The farm also has a wholesale shop selling strawberries as well as vegetables, flowers, and other fruits which can be purchased to take home as souvenirs.
  • Kaju no Mori Yokose Pear Orchard

    This tourist fruit farm is located in Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture. The farm grows Japanese pears, grapes, and a variety of other fruits on its 8,000 square meter grounds, and visitors can enjoy all-you-can-eat fruit. The farm's Japanese pears, pollinated by honeybees and grown with organic fertilizer, are exceptionally sweet and juicy. Grape varieties grown by the farm include Himrod and Beni Izu. In addition to Japanese pear-only and grape-only all-you-can-eat plans, the farm offers a Japanese pear and grape all-you-can-eat plan, giving visitors the chance to savor the flavors of autumn to their heart's content. The farm also offers fresh-picked Japanese pear compote making and beeswax candle making activities.

    ネットで4品種食べ比べが出来るという事だったので、高野いちご園さんに決めました。食べ比べをしてみると本当に1個1個味が違ってました。45分間で練乳、チョコおかわりし放題。いちごはとても甘くて練乳など必要じゃなかったです。ハウス内も綺麗で、店員さん達も優しかったです。

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
