Approximately a 20-minute drive from the Yokkaichi Interchange off the Higashimeihan Expressway, this valley is the entrance to the Miyazuma Gorge inside the Suzuka Quasi- National Park and starts right where one disembarks form the Miyazumaguchi bus stop. This gorge is well known by many Japanese because the fall foliage at this site is eulogized in the fifth poem of the Collection of One Hundred Poets. Not only is the whole area lined with colorful maple trees, but visitors are amazed at the depth of color that spreads all the way to one’s feet. The Mizusawa Momiji maple Festival is held annually around the end of November during which time the trees are illuminated creating an enchanting atmosphere of the gorge that cannot be experienced during the day

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
