This museum located in and run by the paper factory Taihou Wasi Kougyou is a 10-minute walk from JR and Kintetsu Iseshi Station. Established in 1899, they make the paper used at Ise Jingu Shrine. They sell a wide range of Ise washi paper and also have exhibits on the history of paper products, paper making tools, and more. There are also panel explanations of the paper making process, and you can use the machine they provide to make an Ise washi print. They hold paper related events on the second Saturday of the month, and with advance reservation you can make small paper items or even try making washi paper itself.

Mie Areas

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
