This incense store is in the Okage Yokocho area in Ujinakanokiri-cho, Ise. A variety of natural fragrances are on display along with many other original products. Have fun finding your favorite scent with the two testing rooms where you can try out different fragrances. The testing rooms have a retro outward appearance with a modern interior and on rainy weekdays they hold a “Guess the Scent” game.

    伊勢神宮にあるお香のお店です。おかげ横丁、おはらい横丁にお土産屋はたくさんありますが、お香のお店はあまりないかなと思います。奥さんが気に入ってよく使っています。

This store is located approximately 20 minutes by bus from either Ujiyamada Station or Iseshi Station, a one-minute walk from the JinguKaikan-mae bus stop. It is next to the Okageza Folklore Center, in Okage Yokocho, and is a tobacco and lottery ticket seller where chic, heavy smokers gather. The store inherited its name as a tobacco store from the late Edo period to the Meiji period, and the actual historical store sign is displayed inside. There are many items relating to tobacco lining the shelves, such as tobacco pipes, Ise Netsukeornament and imitation-leather tobacco pouches, all of which speak of the way people lived in those times. The store also sells lottery tickets for people to try their luck when they visit Ise.

Mie Areas

around-area-map

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
