An airport in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture which opened in 2005 and which serves as the gateway to the skies in the Chubu area. Both international and domestic flights operate here, making transfers convenient. The airport’s restaurants and shops open early and close late to serve passengers taking early morning and late night flights. The Meihinkan shop sells an abundant variety of Nagoya products with a focus on goods perfect for souvenirs. You can also find restaurants offering a variety of cuisine genres as well as Nagoya specialties. Or you can enjoy a bath while watching the planes take off and land in Centrair’s own Fu no Yu bathhouse. With so many shops and facilities on offer, Chubu Centrair is almost like a theme park.

The Centrair Sky Deck is worth checking out especially if you have time between flights. Its a nice place to catch a break, get fresh air, and watch the aircraft. Its actually a big observation...

This walking path, which runs from the east side of Tokoname Station on the Meitetsu Airport Line and is brimming with history, has been chosen as one of “beautiful Japan’s top quasi 100 historical experiences.” There are two courses: the 1.6-kilometer A Course and 4-kilometer B Course. The A Course contains rows of workshops with brick chimneys and ovens, and the hilly section of the road utilizes discarded pottery materials. The B Course features an archive, a pottery research facility, and other such sites. Both are full of interesting sights and shopping opportunities.

Really nice and worth the walk It was a hot day, but I enjoy the Pottery Footpath and there were many people on that weekend.

A hands on museum where visitors can learn about and enjoy the history of Mizkan vinegar production and food culture. The museum requires an advance reservation to view; a guided tour is provided. The museum is divided into different themes. First, the history of Mizkan vinegar production from the Edo period to modern times is introduced. The museum is full of interesting, interactive exhibits and clever ideas. The tour ends with an area where visitors can experience the wonders of foods with a focus on sushi and nabe hot pot. The museum also has a shop which sells unique original merchandise.

A direct sale shop for ebi senbei shrimp crackers which is also a popular tourist destination. From a large window in the factory tour area, you can watch as senbei are inspected and bagged. In the rest corner, there’s an area where you can try frying your own ebi senbei. The adjoining museum presents the history of ebi senbei.

Said to make young people fall in love, this Shinto shrine is dedicated to Mitsuhanome-no-kami, a water goddess who legends connect with Emperor Ingyo, the 19th emperor of the early fifth century Yamato Court, and who is also said to have appeared in the Heian period. Originally the shrine was believed to heal any and all illnesses, but gradually the focus shifted to curing “lovesickness” and the shrine came to be connected with finding luck in love and marriage. The shrine’s heart-shaped ema votive tablets are unique and cute.

Aichi Areas

Aichi is a prefecture of great natural beauty with Nagoya city at its heart, a busy hub home to a labyrinth of underground shops and the 17th-century Nagoya Castle. Castles are easy to find in this history-rich prefecture, but the highlight for history buffs has to be the Museum Meiji-mura, where preserved buildings from the turn of the 20th century are displayed in all their grandeur in an outdoor museum.
