A restaurant which orders select eel from various areas depending on the season. Shirakawa’s hitsumabushi eel over rice is prepared with particular care and is extraordinary. Rich and flavorful, the hitsumabushi is made with a secret sauce which has been fermented, used, and topped off for decades; domestic brand-name rice; and a thin dashi stock. Pour hot tea over your rice leftovers to enjoy them chazuke style. The chef’s eye for quality ingredients, knife mastery, and intuition for when the eel is perfectly grilled all contribute to an overwhelming sense of craftsmanship (and flavor) that delights even the most discerning eel-lover. Located a two minute walk from Joshin Station on the Tsurumai Line.

The restaurant is located on the 9th floor of Meitetsu Building along side with 8-10 other restaurants. Waiting time as displayed outside is about 20-30 mins. At about 4+, there is no queue but you...

When ordering a coffee or other such drink, a boiled egg and toast or a toasted sandwich (choice of fruit, sweet adzuki bean paste, peanut butter, potato salad, and vegetable salad) is included. The sweet adzuki bean paste toasted sandwich, typical Nagoya food, is a popular choice. Their home-roasted coffee is also really good.

We were looking for the famous morning service recommended by my Japanese tutor. After some research online, many people recommending this small cafe, we made an effort to walk there. It is truly...

This eel specialty restaurant, famous for their version of the Nagoya specialty hitsumabushi (eel rice bowl), is located in the Esca Underground Shopping Center beneath Nagoya Station. Their hitsumabushi uses carefully selected eels which are covered with their secret sauce that uses a rich tamari-soy sauce base and cooked over ubame oak charcoal to create a luxuriant sweet-smelling dish. The taste of the crisp grilled skin is unbelievable. Their kimoyaki (grilled eel liver) and shirayaki (unseasoned grilled eel) are also popular menu items. Being located right next to the bullet train ticket gates this is the perfect place to round off a business trip or vacation.

    Aichi Nagoya-shi Nishi-ku Nagono
"This former castle town merchant district developed alongside the construction of Nagoya Castle in the early Edo period. After a great fire occurred in the area in 1700, the width of the roads was expanded to four ""ken"" (about seven meters) to help prevent the spread of future fires, giving rise to the area's name, which literally means ""four 'ken' road town."" The area's distinctive townscape is comprised of groups of kura storehouses standing on stone basis, rows of merchant homes, and rooftop shrines. During Japan's period of rapid modernization, many of the kura storehouses in the area were demolished, but today those that remain are now being uses as-is to host cafes, restaurants, and bars."

Aichi Areas

around-area-map

Aichi is a prefecture of great natural beauty with Nagoya city at its heart, a busy hub home to a labyrinth of underground shops and the 17th-century Nagoya Castle. Castles are easy to find in this history-rich prefecture, but the highlight for history buffs has to be the Museum Meiji-mura, where preserved buildings from the turn of the 20th century are displayed in all their grandeur in an outdoor museum.
