Tokoname-ya is located in a remodeled abandoned wooden porcelain workshop, now reborn as a studio, gallery, cafe, and shop, and is one of the foremost places leading ceramics-center Tokoname’s revitalization. They have a public space available for parties, hobby classes and more, making it a lively place for local community building. The food here is really nice quality served on more or less local ceramics. It is good for parties especially but you need to plan and book ahead.

A gallery in front of the noborigama kiln that's a National Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property and symbol of Tokoname ware. It primarily exhibits and sells unique works by Tokoname artisans. The proprietor's handmade Hotaruko Jizo pieces are particularly well-known. Kindness comes from the slits of eyes drawn on the round, baby like face. They also sells items for daily use such as cups and teapots. They regularly hold solo exhibits and there's always something new to discover.

Aichi Main Areas

around-area-map

Aichi is a prefecture of great natural beauty with Nagoya city at its heart, a busy hub home to a labyrinth of underground shops and the 17th-century Nagoya Castle. Castles are easy to find in this history-rich prefecture, but the highlight for history buffs has to be the Museum Meiji-mura, where preserved buildings from the turn of the 20th century are displayed in all their grandeur in an outdoor museum.
