"The complex is located in front of Shin-Kanaya Station on Oigawa Railway. There is a sales desk for steam locomotive rapid tickets, and shops, as well as a steam locomotive museum. The museum, in the back of the building, provides a nostalgic space by recreating the train station from the 1950s and 60s. Old steam locomotives and passenger cabins are on display, as well as many items that will tug on your heartstrings, such as the telephone booth, and the advertising mirror which is the only one left in the world. Sold in the shops, the ""SL Kuro Curry"", which uses squid ink as a base to represent coal, and the SL caps, which are engraved with steam locomotive license plates, are perfect as souvenirs."

"This Japanese confectionery shop is located about 5 minutes by car from Ieyama Station on the Oigawa Railway. They sell daifuku, pudding, and cake. The ""Kawane Daifuku"" which uses local Kawane tea comes in two varieties, white and brown. With its characteristic gentle sweetness and clean flavor, daifuku is praised for having great harmony of cream and strained red bean paste. The package features a drawing of tea-leaf-picking, fitting the tea-growing area of Kawane. You can also eat the confections you purchase along with coffee in the cafe corner."

"A confectionery shop founded in 1871. They sell their kintsuba, a representative of the shop which bears the shop name, as well as karinto manju (fried-dough cookies with adzuki-beans paste inside), dorayaki (bean-jam pancake), and roll cake. Carefully hand baked one at a time since its founding, their ""kintsuba (adzuki-beans paste wrapped in flour dough)"" is bears the traditional flavor of this well-established shop. Its characteristics are a strongly textured bean paste wrapped in the perfect thickness of dough, making for a gently sweet aftertaste. In the adjacent cafe, you can partake of the ""want-to-eat-one-more"" kintsuba, as well as pancakes, parfaits, soft-serve ice cream or matcha green tea."

"This confectionery shop is located in the middle of Tokaido Mitsuke-juku. They make and sell ""awa mochi (millet dough cake)"", which is a necessity for the Mitsuke Tenjin Hadaka Festival, a Nationally-Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property which has been passed down in Tokaido for ages. Featuring mochi made with millet wrapped in homemade smooth ground bean paste, the ""awa mochi"" feels good in the mouth and is great as a souvenir from Iwata. The ""shippei pan"", an egg bread with an old-style taste, features a grilled image of Shippei, the promotional character for Iwata City, and is another popular item. The seasonal Japanese sweets, the old-style sweet buns, and the anmaki-bean paste wrapped in thin dorayaki dough-are all highly rated."

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
