Japan’s largest safari park, located in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Some 30 species of animals, including a variety of large herbivores, bears, and lions live lives of ease in the park’s Safari Zone, which visitors can drive through in their own car or take a park bus tour through to view them up close in an environment close to their natural habitat. In the Fureai Zone, visitors can play with and feed kangaroos, capybaras, and other small animals. There’s also a popular Walking Safari course which lets you walk the outer perimeter of the safari zone on foot (closed in winter). The park offers a Night Safari course only on Saturday, Sunday, and holiday nights in spring and summer.

Actually, it is our 2nd time to visit the park. My kids enjoyed riding the bus wherein it will go to the safari and you can see the animals roaming around like the lions. You can feed them from...

    Yamanashi / Shizuoka prefecture
This is an elegant mountain which is certainly also a symbol of Japan, which is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776 meters. Mt. Fuji is also often the theme of artistic inspiration such as Hokusai Katsushika: “Fugaku Sanjurokkei” (Thirty-six Sceneries of Mt. Fuji). Also, Mt. Fuji is also the place where the “Mt. Fuji faith” started and it is revered as a sacred mountain in which a deity resides. In 2013 it was registered with World Cultural Heritage as “Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration”. There are four climbing routes including the Yoshida Route, the Subashiri Route, the Gotemba Route and the Fujinomiya Route. Since the opening periods vary depending on which mountain trail you choose, it is necessary to confirm in advance whether your intended route is open.

A shrine in Miyacho Town, Fujinomiya City. With Mt. Fuji as its holy mount, the god Konohana-no-Sakuyahime-no-Mikoto is venerated here. It is the head shrine of the nearly 1,300 Sengen Shrines in the country. The main building, made in Sengen-style, has been designated a National Important Cultural Property, and the Wakutamaike Pond, which springs up into the precincts from the terminus of Mt. Fuji's lava flow, has been designated a National Special Natural Monument.

We had a hour visiting this shrine. We were taken to the Shrine by friends in their car. At about 9:15am, car- parking spaces were quite plentiful in the paid Carpark which had several...

This roadside station, where guests can relax while enjoying the blessings of Mt. Fuji, is very popular for the views of the mountain from its restaurant's terrace seats. The terrace is connected directly to a grassy space where visitors can enjoy Mt. Fuji at a scale not found anywhere else. Soaking in its foot baths while taking in the up-close view of Mt. Fuji is a great way for weary travelers to unwind. The station's FUJIYAMA BAZAAR, which is stocked with a huge selection of local souvenirs and specialties, and its Fujiyama Shokudo diner, which offers views of Mt. Fuji, are both well worth a visit.

Visited on my way back to Yamanashi pref from Shizuoka Pref (Gotemba). You can try to taste many kinds of local small snacks and also on the second floor you can try an onsen-foot-spa, too. It made...

Many people visit the shrine to pray for safety before climbing Mt. Fuji.

This roadside station is located along the Fuji-Yui Bypass of National Route 1 in Gokanjima, Fuji City. It was the first roadside station built in Shizuoka Prefecture, and it offers a glorious view of Mt. Fuji. It is divided into inbound and outbound sides; the inbound side features a restaurant that has items like rice bowls using Suruga Bay's sakura shrimp, and vendors of souvenirs. And on the outbound side, there is a restaurant offering noodles and such.

Good place to stop on the way to the top! Make sure to grab some supplies for the long trip. While many people attempt to climb Fuji-san every year, many also fail due to being ill prepared.

A museum in Yamamiya, Fujinomiya City. It was opened as Japan's first museum for stones in 1971. The variety of rare stones are displayed here not according to a mineralogical viewpoint, but using a viewpoint that compares them to animals or plants, based on Unkonshi-Japan's first expert stone manual, written by Sekitei Kiuchi, a naturalist of the Edo period. There are also exhibits of gemstones, luminous stones, dinosaur fossils and other fossils, and of materials related to Kenji Miyazawa (famous poet and author) as a geologist.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan's largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
