    Travel / Tourism
    Shizuoka Pref. Fujinomiyashi Yamamiya 740

Fuji rituals as a distant place of worship for direct adoration of Mt. Fuji.
  • Murayama Sengen Shrine
    Travel / Tourism
    Shizuoka Pref. Fujinomiyashi Murayama 1151

Fuji an object of faith and the inspiration of art. The primary deity is Konohanosakuyabime. Being that Mt. Fuji was formerly a site for ascetic monks, even today in the main sanctum's Dainichi Hall are preserved the Dainichi Buddhas reflecting the historic period when Shinto and Buddhism were taught together. The great cedar and great ginko trees within the precinct are desginated as Prefectural Natural Monuments.
  • Kintoki Shrine
    Travel / Tourism
    Shizuoka Sunto-gun Oyamacho Nakajima
"Located a 15-minute walk from Suruga-Oyama Station or a 25-minute drive from the Gotemba Interchange, this shrine is northwest of the station inside Kintoki Park. Volunteers built the shrine building to enshrine Sakata no Kintoki, the ""Kintaro"" of the famous children's song, on the site of what is said to be his home. Since prayers offered at the shrine are said to be effective in promoting safe childbirth, raising children, and children's health, many parents visit the shrine with their children. During November, the local tourism association sponsors Shichi-Go-San (a blessing for three-and seven-year-old girls and five-year-old boys). Legend has it that Kintoki's mother Yaegiri gave him his first bath in the waters of Chorori Nanataki Waterfall on the mountain behind the shrine."

It took first place in the Places to Go category of the Shizuoka sponsored Fuji-no-Kuni Angel Power-Spot popularity contest. Tradition states that if you pet the wooden carved statue of a dog you'll be blessed with children, and many worshipers come to the shrine from both within the prefecture and from further locales.

It’s close to all the hotels which is a huge plus when you’ve done a lot of walking. The temple was a great location to relax and get out of the huddle and bustle. Sitting by the koi pond was great...

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
