    Shizuoka Kamo-gun Kawazucho Yatsu 138
This facility that exhibits Buddhist statues made during the Heian period is located about a five-minute drive from Kawazu Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. The facility is adjacent to the monkless Nanzenji Temple. It was opened in February 2013 in celebration of the splendid Buddhist culture that blossomed in what is now Kawazu Town during the Heian period. The centerpiece of the collection of 24 Heian period Buddhist statues is the ninth-century seated statue of the Yakushi Nyorai. The statue, which is the principal image of Nanzenji Temple, is considered to be the oldest Buddha statue in Shizuoka Prefecture. Other exhibits include the tenth-century standing statue of the Jizo Bosatsu, as well as the tenth-century standing statues of the Shinsho (protective deities), which were received great praise when they were exhibited across Europe.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
