    Shizuoka Shimoda-shi 3-3-12
This restaurant is located about a 10-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. It serves seafood prepared simply with great respect for the flavor of the marine products from Shimoda's coastal waters as well as creative cuisine made with local vegetables. The restaurant has been using the same secret sauce to make dishes such as their grilled spiny lobster and their whole simmered splendid alfonsino for more than five decades. The richly-flavored sauce, which the restaurant has been adding to since it was first opened, was created to pair perfectly with Izu's seafood. We recommend donburi (rice bowls) such as their jizakana aburi sashimi no negimeshi, which features seared local fish served smothered with leeks, onions, and green onions over rice, as well as their set meals.

Special place, with wonderful local dishes, and great service. They were worried about what we would think of the Japanese tables because for some sillies they were not appreciated, but we were very...

    Shizuoka Shimoda-shi 5-11-14 (Nabeta Kaigan)
"This pizzeria is located on a hill near the Nabeta Coast about a five-minute drive from Izukyu-Shimoda Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. It serves pizza with thick and flavorful homemade crusts that pair well with the Dutch 100% Gouda cheese. In addition to pizza, the restaurant also has a full selection of western-style dishes. Their carefully-roasted garlic chicken comes particularly recommended. Another item that is popular with many locals is their piping-hot ""tsuboiri"" beef stew, which is baked and served in a small pot covered with a pie crust. Another popular item is their ""pain gratin"", which is made using a whole loaf of bread."

    Shizuoka Shimoda-shi Kisami 1901
About 10 minutes by car from Izukyu Shimoda Station, this café and restaurant offers a relaxing meal or coffee while enjoying the view of Kisami-Ohama Beach spread out before your eyes. In particular, the beef curry, which is a staple of the menu and simmered slowly for a week, is popular for its deep flavor, and the omelette rice with demi-glace sauce is said to draw customers who travel from far away.

Warm welcoming family cooking authentic local Japanese food. Great atmosphere very kind and warm during a monsoon. We will go again

"Located on the first floor of the business hotel ""Tontei"" in front of Izukyu Shimoda Station, this seafood restaurant boasts of its traditional tonkatsu (pork cutlet), which it has maintained since its establishment as ""Tonkatsu Tontei"" in 1965, and dishes using fresh local fish and sea bream, a specialty of Izu Kyuko Line, which it purchases daily. The ""Shimoda's Champion Don,"" a gorgeous seafood rice bowl with boiled lobster, fresh abalone, golden threadfin bream, tuna, horse mackerel, and baby sardines, is also popular."

"This soba restaurant is located about a three-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. The restaurant is popular with locals and also visited by many people from outside the prefecture. Guests can enjoy their thin and springy ni-hachi soba noodles made with stone-ground buckwheat flour using an 8:2 soba to filler ratio. We recommend eating their classic ""oseiro"" (chilled soba noodles served on a bamboo strainer) with plenty of their homemade shichimi (seven spice blend), which has a strong note of green laver seaweed. Other popular offerings include their ten seiro, which is served with a seasonal tempura, their chilled kamo seiro, which is served with a hearty dipping sauce containing duck, leek, and other ingredients, and also their hot kamo soba. Although the restaurant closes at 16:00, it stops taking orders once it runs out of soba."

    Shizuoka Kamo-gun Matsuzakicho Ena 270-1
This conveyor sushi restaurant is located about 90 minutes from Numazu Interchange on the Tomei Expressway via National Route 136. Popular with tourists and locals alike, it offers the sort of fresh seafood that you would expect from a sushi restaurant operated by a fishmonger. They serve local seafood from Suruga Bay such as redfin scad, fan lobster, and raw whitebait at affordable prices. One of their more popular offerings is their daily lunches, which include a donburi (rice bowl), miso soup, a side dish, pickles, and a dessert. The price changes depending on the contents of the donburi.. Another popular offering is their kaisendon, which features six to seven varieties of sashimi served over rice. The restaurant also offers event catering services.

This seafood restaurant is located next to Matsuzaki Port about 120 minutes from Numazu Interchange on the Tomei Expressway via National Route 136. The restaurant is operated by Toyosaki Hotel. We recommend their himono (dried fish) set meal, which includes three varieties of chargrilled homemade himono such as Japanese horse mackerel, Japanese butterfish, or sardine mirinboshi (fish marinated in mirin and soy sauce and dried). Another popular offering is their utsukushii (beautiful) lunches, which includes an assortment of sashimi made with the best local fish available that day and a chargrilled himono. The restaurant's coffee, which is made with spring water, is also popular. The restaurant also sells a wide variety of homemade himono such as horse mackerel himono and mirinboshi, silver-stripe round herring maruboshi (dried whole fish), and splendid alfonsino himono.

This soba restaurant is located about a five-minute walk from the Kichijo bus stop. It serves freshly-made juwari soba noodles made with exclusively with wholegrain domestic buckwheat flour ground fresh in-house. Cold soba dishes on offer include namako uchi (freshly-made soba noodles), seiro (soba noodles served on a bamboo steamer), and karami spicy daikon (soba noodles topped with grated spicy daikon radish). Hot soba offerings include kakesoba (soba noodles served in a hot broth), curry nanban (soba served topped with a curry sauce), and sansai kinoko (soba served in a hot wild plant and mushrooms broth). Shizuoka Kamo-gun Matsuzakicho Osawa 281
This restaurant specializing in sweetfish dishes is located about 120 minutes from Numazu Interchange on the Tomei Expressway via National Route 136. The inconspicuous restaurant is nestled in the mountains in Osawa Onsen. It features its own fish farm fed with pure mountain water. Guests can enjoy sweetfish in a variety of ways including ikizukuri (sashimi prepared live), hiraki (butterflied and dried), karaage (deep-fried in starch), and breaded and fried, as well as many other dishes including miso soup. We especially recommend their ayugohan, a pilaf-like dish made by cooking rice together with yakiayu and uruka. Yakiayu is a traditional foodstuff made by chargrilling sweetfish for 24 hours and then smoking it for three to four days. Uruka is salted and fermented sweetfish guts. Other offerings include wild game such as boar and venison, wild plants, Japanese mitten crab, and more.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
