This park is located on Prefectural Route 16 heading northwest of Irozaki Cape. It is about a five-minute from the Aiaimisaki bus stop. As the name suggests, the park's most notable characteristic is its wild yusuge lilies. Yusuge lilies are a rare species that is even a designated plant of a national park special zone. The flowers bloom each year between mid-July to mid-August. They gradually start blooming around 14:00 before reaching full bloom around 18:00 and then perishing around 5:00 the next morning. Another one of the park's attractions is the scenic view offered by its hilltop location.

  • Shimoda Park
    Leisure / Hobbies
    Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture 3
This is a nature park located on a slightly elevated hill, and you can see the Pacific with one sweep of the eye from its three observation platforms. It is the site of the ruins of the mountain castle, Shimoda Castle which the Hojo clan built in preparation of their confrontation with Hideyoshi. The best time to see Azaleas is in spring, hydrangeas in early summer, and then the common camellia is during winter. The “Hydrangea Festival” is also held every June. Since there is a monument to the opening of Japan to the world and a stone monument of Shimooka Renjo, let’s enjoy a walk while thinking about the history of Shimoda.

    Shizuoka Kamo-gun Nishiizucho Nishina 822-1
This park is located about a 90-minute bus ride from the Shuzenji Station on the Izuhakone Railway on the Tokai Bus Matzuaki Line and about a five-minute walk from the Nishina Shako bus stop. The park was developed in the neck of Cape Ajo, a national place of scenic beauty. It features a grassy space used for events, the Ajo no Ashiyu footbaths, and other facilities that make it a place for locals to relax and enjoy activities such as dog-walking, sandlot baseball, and soccer. There is also a promenade of about 3km from the Anjo Coast in the far reaches of the park to the tip of the cape, where the turtle shell-shaped Kamegoiwa Rock stands. Visitors can enjoy talking a walk while observing seaside vegetation such as beach vitex and Japanese silverleaf.

    Shizuoka Kamo-gun Higashiizucho Inatori
This park is located just next to the Choei Grand bus stop about a five-minute bus ride from Izu-Inatori Station. The park is most notable for having a geoglyph of a dove made from flowering plants. It also has an observation deck located at an elevation of 239 meters that offers a sweeping view of Inatori Cape, the Pacific Ocean, and beyond. The park features a wide variety of facilities that can be enjoyed by families with children including a treehouse designed by Japan's foremost treehouse creator, who happens to be an Inatori native, as well as an obstacle course and a 50-meter-long slide. It also serves as a venue for cross country running and mountain biking competitions. Cherry blossoms can be seen from late March to early April.
  • Okawa Onsen Takegasawa Park

    Shizuoka Kamo-gun Higashiizucho Okawa
This park is located about a 20-minute walk northwest along the river from Izu-Okawa Station. The park was developed in the restored garden of an old home originally built in the Meiji period. The beautiful water of the park's clear pond earned it a spot on the list of Shizuoka Prefecture's 100 best waterfronts. Visitors can enjoy the seasonal scenery from the gazebo that stands on the side of the pond. A firefly watching event called Hotaru no Yube is held in mid-June every year. Attendees of the event can watch the genji-botaru fireflies fly (Luciola cruciata) while being guided by the park's staff.
  • Hokkawa Chikujoseki Park
    Leisure / Hobbies
    Shizuoka Kamo-gun Higashiizucho Hokkawa
This park is located north along the coast from Hokkawa Port about a five-minute drive from Izu-Hokkawa Station. It is situated inside of a hot spring inn district, making it an easy place to access while sightseeing. When the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu set about expanding Edo Castle, he commanded the tozama daimyo, a class of feudal lords considered to be outsiders, to gather stone for the castle's construction. It is believed that the stone used to build the castle's walls was quarried here on the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula. This is the origin of the park's name. Visitors can see a massive four-ton stone on the park's grounds. Spending time relaxing while feeling the sea breeze is one of the park's biggest attractions.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
