    Shizuoka Atami-shi Izusan 604-10
Hashiriyu is a hot springs source located in Izu-yama, Atami City. One of only a handful of hot springs in Japan where the water gushes out of the rocks horizontally rather than vertically, the modern name “Hashiriyu” (“Running Spring”) derives from the appearance of the water, which appears to be rushing towards the sea. Hashiriyu has a long history, having been discovered around 1,300 years ago; prior to the Meiji Restoration, it was a sacred hot spring associated with the Izusan-jinja Shrine. It is ranked as one of Japan’s “Three Great Ancient Springs.” Currently, around 7,000 tons of water flows out of the springs every day.

One of the sources of the so called Seven Hot Springs of Atami in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the steam which escapes through the rocks at this hot spring is so hot you can boil an egg. Just place an egg into a basket and position it over one of the steam vents, put on the wooden lid and wait for the egg to be boiled. Cooking times vary depending on the weather but soft boiled eggs take about six to eight minutes to cook and hard boiled eggs take about 10 minutes. You can bring in your own eggs or buy them from the store opposite. The steam is extremely hot so be careful when boiling your eggs!

    Shizuoka Atami-shi Higashikaigancho
"A pine tree on the coastline along National Route 135. It has a history stretching back to the Edo period, and it was called the ""Hagoromo-no-matsu"" because of its extremely beautiful appearance, having been planted by the elder Matsudaira Izunokami Nobutsuna. This pine leaped to fame due to ""Konjiki Yasha"" by Koyo Ozaki, which was printed serially in Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper over six years starting in 1897. A pupil of Koyo's, Fuyo Oguri, placed a monument with words of Konjiki Yasha on it next to this pine, so it came to be called ""Omiya-no-matsu."" Now, this is one of the popular photo spots in Atami as well as the statue of Kanichi and Omiya."

This magnificent lava rock coast extends for some nine kilometers. Along it is the 48 meter-long, 23 meter-tall Kadowaki Suspension Bridge that spans the sea between Hanshiro Otoshi and Kadowaki Cape. Next to the bridge is the Jogasaki Blues monument, one of the coast's points of interest. The monument was created to commemorate the increase in tourism in the area caused by the release of the 1968 smash hit Jogasaki Blues by mood kayo music group Akira Kurosawa and the Ross Primos.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
