Located in Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Ema is perhaps the largest strawberry picking facility in the prefecture. The center is only open during strawberry season, from December to around the Golden Week holidays (early May). Visitors can enjoy eating two strawberry varieties here: Akihime, a large sized strawberry cultivar originally developed in Shizuoka; and Benihoppe, a variety based on Akihime. During a picking session, visitors can eat as many ripe, sweet, and juicy strawberries as they like for 30 minutes, and condensed milk to top them with is provided for free. Ema’s shop sells strawberries for taking home, strawberry jam, and strawberry sweets.

A typical but nevertheless amazing (as others) Japanese strawberry farm:you pay a set price and eat as many strawberries as you want/can. I don’t remember the exact price, something around $20 or...

"Miho no Matsubara is a scenic area located on the Miho Peninsula in Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City. It is famous for a roughly 7km long stretch of beach that is lined with around 30,000 pine trees, and because of its association with the famous Legend of Hagoromono (""Feathered Robe""); there is one particular pine tree, called the ""Hagoromo no Pine Tree,"" on which, according to the legend, a celestial being who had been flying over the beach hung her feathered garment so that she could bathe in the sea. Miho no Matsubara's beautiful scenery has made it the subject matter of countless paintings and poems over the centuries, including Utagawa Hiroshige's ""Famous Views of the Sixty Noted Provinces"" and ""Pine Groves of Miho in Suruga Province."" In 2013, the Miho no Matsubara pine groves were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the ""Fujisan, Sacred Place and Source of Artistic Inspiration"" World Heritage site."

Kitagawa Onsen, Higashiizu-cho, Kamo-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture
Located on the coast in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Kamo County, Higashiizu Town, this is a publicly managed open-air bath right on the edge of the ocean. Just as its catch phrase of “bathing in an open-air bath while looking at America” implies, the view is outstanding. One can enjoy bathing with the ocean at eye level, and it is a popular spot that attracts hot spring lovers from all over the country. One of the three bathtubs is exclusively for women, and it is possible to enter the bath while wearing a bath towel. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. all of the baths are women-only.

I spoke with the proprietors. In the past year (2018) the baths have been redone such that there is a permanent womens bath and mens bath, both opening to the sea. As such, this is not a mixed...

Hashiriyu is a hot springs source located in Izu-yama, Atami City. One of only a handful of hot springs in Japan where the water gushes out of the rocks horizontally rather than vertically, the modern name “Hashiriyu” (“Running Spring”) derives from the appearance of the water, which appears to be rushing towards the sea. Hashiriyu has a long history, having been discovered around 1,300 years ago; prior to the Meiji Restoration, it was a sacred hot spring associated with the Izusan-jinja Shrine. It is ranked as one of Japan’s “Three Great Ancient Springs.” Currently, around 7,000 tons of water flows out of the springs every day.

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
