A castle built in the Momoyama period style located at the Nishikigaura mountaintop in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The castle was in fact built in 1959; no castle was ever historically located here. The castle tower viewing platform offers a stunning view 160 meters above sea level, and on clear days visitors can see all the way to the Izu Peninsula and Oshima. The castle’s grounds are filled with things to see and do, including a jacuzzi foot bath to soothe aching feet while gazing at beautiful scenery, a free game center, an area where visitors can try various Edo period activities, a museum dedicated to castles and samurai culture, and a tea house offering sweets and spectacular views. The adjoining Atami Trick Art Museum is also popular. Fee required to enter castle grounds.

We went for lunch as there is nowhere else around the castle but it has a nice panoramic view of the sea. The meal itself is simple, based on Japanese noodles (soba/ udon) , options with tempura. The...

Since it was founded in 709, the shrine has been visited by worshippers seeking the protection from fire it is purported to provide. In medieval times, the shrine was known as the ""Akiha Daigongen;"" designated a top-ranking shrine by the Imperial Court, it received donations of numerous swords of excellent manufacture from noted samurai. With a church and chapel contained within, there is precious stained glass from the 19th century given by the UK to be found throughout the building. The museum is a glorious space in which the soul is soothed by the rays of sunshine pouring through the stained glass windows, the soft light of the lamps and by the scent of the incense. Unexpected moments can be enjoyed while listening to the sounds of the music box and pipe organ. On site is an Italian restaurant run by chef Yukio Ishizaki and also a wedding venue.

It has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. It is located in the site of the Nirayama government office, designated a national Historical Site of Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Following the Hogen Rebellion in 1156, Uno Chikanobu, the sixth generation of the Uno family, settled in the land of Izunirayama and so began the history of the Egawa Residence. The Uno family renamed themselves as the Egawa family and served as local governor for eleven generations during the Edo period. The main building is a single story building with a half-hipped roof. Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
