    This spot in Kariyado Fujinomiya City is famous for its cherry blossoms. It is known for a more than 800 year-old hill cherry tree, Japan's oldest, that Minamoto no Yoritomo is said to have tied his horse to while on a hunt in 1193. The tree has been designated as an National Special Natural Monument. The area is also notable for the beautiful rape blossoms grown in the surrounding area.

    About 7 km from the Atami Pass Interchange on the Izu Skyline, the Izu Skyline is a 40.6 km toll road that runs through the Izu Peninsula from Atami Pass to Amagi Plateau, a mountain road offering scenic views of Sagami Bay, Suruga Bay, Mt. The parking lot has a spectacular view of Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji, and at night you can enjoy the night view of Numazu City and Fuji City along Suruga Bay.
  • Firefly Viewing at the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace

    "This firefly viewing event is held at the Furukawa River Dike about a one-minute walk from the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces. The furnances, a world heritage built at the end of the Edo period, is located about a 10-minute drive from Izu-Nagaoka Station on the Izuhakone Railway. The event, which is entitled ""Hotaru Kansho no Yube,"" is held from mid-May to mid-June. Visitors can see naturally-occurring genji-botaru fireflies (Luciola cruciata). The furnace is lit up at night and its parking lot is opened to the general public free of charge during the event. The venue is also fully wheelchair accessible. The surrounding area is a residential neighborhood, so firefly viewing is only allowed during the event."

  • Izu Amagi Onsenkyo Fireflies (Amagi Firefly Festival)

    This firefly viewing area is located in the Amagi Onsenkyo hot spring village about a 30-minute drive from Shuzenji Station on the Izuhakone Railway on a Tokai Bus and about a five-minute walk from the Yugashima Onsen-guchi bus stop. Visitors can see genji-botaru fireflies (Luciola cruciata) raised by local children around the mountain streams near Deaibashi Bridge, which spans the confluence of Nekko River and Hontani River. The Amagi Firefly Festival held here in early June features attractions such as taiko drum performances by local volunteers. The best time to view the fireflies is around 8:00 p.m. on moonless nights. Some lodging facilities in the hot spring village offer shuttles to and from the event venue. Heike-botaru fireflies (Aquatica lateralis) can be seen in July.

    "This coastal hot spring inn district is famous for its views of the moon. It is located about a 10-minute walk north from Izu-Hokkawa Station. ""Moon Road"" is the name of a natural phenomenon that occurs three days before and after a full moon in which the moon's reflection appears to stretch to the Tokai Coast from the horizon. It has been certified as one of Japan's Top 100 Most Beautiful Moon Views and also ranked in the ""I Want to Go"" and ""Glad I Went"" categories of the Fujinokuni Angel Power Spot General Election. Visitors can relax while enjoying the view from the seaside terrace. It is said that any wish made at the Moon Road for ten seconds will come true."
  • Kamikurasawa Sengamachi Rice Field Terraces

    The terraced rice paddies, called "Senkura," meaning a thousand rice paddies by the local people, are located at the end of the hill east of the Kamikurasawa Public Hall. The area is also noted for its diverse ecosystem, including Japanese red-legged frogs, loach, and the seven grasses of autumn.

    This tradition of the Yui-Kanbara region you can see from spring (late March to early June) and fall (late October to late December). During the fishing season, sakura shrimp captured at Yui Port is naturally dried on the riverbed of Fuji River. During that time, you can see the riverbed tinged with the pink of sakura shrimp with Mt. Fuji as a backdrop. The period of natural drying is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.. At around 2 p.m., the sakura shrimp which have finished drying are collected, so it's best to get there early. In order to perform the drying, it is necessary that sakura shrimp fishers went out the day before, and that the day of drying is a clear day.

    This tea garden spans the area between the plains downriver on the Oigawa river and the Kiku River. A vast green-colored carpet spreads on top of a plateau at an elevation of 100 to 200 meters. The tea garden got its start when samurai traveling with the Tokugawa clan abandoned their swords and started cultivating. Then, Kawagoshi-ninsoku (coolies crossing a river on foot) pitched in, and the local farmers eventually took over, and the garden developed into Japan's biggest tea garden. Currently, it comprises 40% of the tea production in Shizuoka. From the Makinohara Park located in one area, you can see the Oi river below, and on a clear day, you can see out to Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay.
  • Sasamagawa Dam

    This dam was made in 1960 to stop up the Sasama River, a tributary of the Oi river. What was the peak of a mountain now sits as a lonely island in the middle of the dam lake. The contrast between the emerald green of the lake surface and the deep green of the lonely island is beautiful, and there are many families here enjoying the scenery in each season, including the azalea, new greenery, the fall leaves. There is a walking path around the lake, so you can enjoy hiking or cycling. From Mt. Gongen rising in the back, you can see the Uyama no Nanamagari-a scenic spot of the Oi River.
  • Kunma Hotaru no Sato

    "The Atago River, a part of the Tenryu River system, is one of the best firefly habitats in Hamamatsu City. Each year from early to late June, visitors can watch the beautiful dances traced out by the lights of fireflies. A ""firefly school"" event is held in early June in which local residents teach visitors about the ecology of fireflies and conservation activities. Participants can get an in-depth understanding of these insects which have now become a rare sight in Japan. During firefly season, visitors must pay an environmental conservation cooperation fee; funds are used to preserve environments in which fireflies can live."
