"An old temple established in 1401. The total area of the temple is about 331,000 square meters. It is famous as a flower temple, since you can see peony in spring, heron in summer, and bright autumn leaves in fall. During the ""Kasuisai Hina Matsuri"" which takes place from New Year's Day to the end of March, roughly 1,200 dolls decorate 32 levels-among the most levels in Japan. It is the top place for pursuing Zen in Tokaido, and even now, many priests are training here as a specialized monastery in the Soto sect."

    Shizuoka Atami-shi Izusan 604-10
Hashiriyu is a hot springs source located in Izu-yama, Atami City. One of only a handful of hot springs in Japan where the water gushes out of the rocks horizontally rather than vertically, the modern name “Hashiriyu” (“Running Spring”) derives from the appearance of the water, which appears to be rushing towards the sea. Hashiriyu has a long history, having been discovered around 1,300 years ago; prior to the Meiji Restoration, it was a sacred hot spring associated with the Izusan-jinja Shrine. It is ranked as one of Japan’s “Three Great Ancient Springs.” Currently, around 7,000 tons of water flows out of the springs every day.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
