This is a restaurant where you can taste fisherman’s meals and Izu Kogen beer produced with the clear and clean waters from the Mt. Amagi group. In front of the terrace seats, there is a yacht harbor with the smell of salt air—you can enjoy your meal while watching the sea. It’s also OK to have your pets on the terrace. In addition to the “Kaisen-don” (seafood bowl) served at this restaurant which includes plenty of fish bought fresh that morning, there are also plenty of Italian dishes such as “Japanese blue crab pasta” which is made using ingredients from Izu and stone grilled pizza.

This is an Italian restaurant on the coast around a 10-minute walk from Kawazu Station, in an old remodeled warehouse said to have been around for more than 150 years. Inside is a mature atmosphere, with thick beams and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Here one can enjoy unique regional Italian cuisine using the best of local ingredients including locally-sourced vegetables and seasonal fish, Izu beef, Amagi fowl, and spiny lobster unloaded at Kawazu Port. Both lunch and dinner require reservations (the latter two days before).

The chefs Italian experience gave him a superb background for taking Izuvian produce and creating superb courses. Highly regarded by everyone who dines here.

This is an Italian restaurant in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and the owner chef has been officially recognized as a professional who has made great use of the wonderful foodstuffs Shizuoka has to offer. They offer cuisine based around fresh Shizuoka produce such as local vegetables including Omuro Onsen lettuce, Mt. Fuji salmon, Asagiri Yogurton pork from the foot of Mt. Fuji, and Ashitaka beef. The reasonably-priced pasta lunch course, the assortment of local vegetables and the domestic beef cheek cooked in red wine are all popular. The terrace seating allows pets.

We made a late visit to this charming restaurant. They only have the menu in Japanese, but the chef spoke very good English and we ordered pasta and pizzas. The pizzas were small but absolutely...

The hamburgers using Suruga Bay deep sea fish including shark and deep sea smelt are particularly popular. There are sundaes using Shizuoka matcha latte and Fuji-Sanroku milk, and it’s easy to drop by during a break in sightseeing.

Page One is an Italian restaurant and variety store located along the famous sightseeing spot Perry Road in the city of Shimoda in Shizuoka Prefecture. The stone building is a remodeled and repurposed medical clinic. The owner of Page One insists on using only the finest ingredients: local ingredients, pancetta made in-house, mozzarella produced in Italy. This quiet, understated restaurant allows guests to taste genuine Italian cuisine. One of the most popular dishes is Blue Crab Pasta with Creamy Tomato Sauce. Tables are set up on the bridge in front of the restaurant, so that diners can watch the river flow as they enjoy their meal.

Page One is run by a very friendly couple who will instantly make you feel welcome. The menu is simple but the three courses I sampled were all delicious.

This hideaway-esque curry restaurant located in the forest of Izu Kogen offers curries that are essentially Indian-style yet entirely unique. Made without curry powder, each of their curries is thickened with fruits and vegetables rather than with flour. They are also made without artificial seasonings or sugar, and each curry has a unique blend of spices. This uncompromising obsession with quality is what makes their food so delicious. While we can recommend all of their items, you should definitely try the Izu beef curry on your first visit.

Although supplies are limited, their kuroge wagyu steak-don (Japanese Black beef steak on rice) and kuroge wagyu karubi-don (Korean-style Japanese Black beef on rice) are especially popular for offering authentic Japanese Black beef at reasonable prices. Their dim sum-style original Mishima gyoza (pot stickers) and Mishima emaki (a type of spring roll) are also popular.

Shizuoka Main Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
