This French confectionery specialist in Ginza Town, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture is an old shop established in 1947. The first-generation chef opened the shop after long research and self study and it has since become a much loved landmark in the area. In the storefront showcase are pillow sponge shortcake, mille-feuille, roll cake, and other pleasingly traditional cakes all in a row. They continue to pay close attention to the fundamental ingredients like the dough, sponginess and cream and make cakes to traditional French recipes.

This tourist facility located around a two-minute walk from Izu-Atagawa Station is a combined teahouse and workshop where one can try art experiences. One can choose from three experiences including clear candles, glass art, and a deco music box. They are made using sand, shells and glasswork, and even beginners and children can make something to their own taste. It takes around 60 minutes to complete a course. In the meantime others can relax in the teahouse which was an old home in Niigata that was dismantled and reconstructed. Booking isn’t necessary (though it is possible to book in advance if working to a set schedule).

Zaru Soba is served with a stalk of pure Amagi-grown wasabi that goes down easily, and if any is left over, customers can take it home. The Kake Soba is served with locally grown shiitake mushrooms and wild plants.

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan's largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
