This museum is located about 20 minutes from the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway Mino Interchange via National Route 156 and Prefectural Route 81. The museum introduces from various perspectives the world of Shisai style paper patchwork, with its traditions and hidden possibilities for the future, and history and techniques of Mino washi traditional Japanese paper passed down in the Mino area. The first exhibition room introduces the production areas of washi paper throughout Japan, history of washi, and papermaking technology. In the second exhibition room, they give concrete suggestions about practical uses of washi paper in everyday living spaces. In addition, you can also have a “papermaking experience” using authentic tools and natural ingredients in the workshop.

Nice Museum located in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture. But i think it should have more papers and paper exhibits on display. They had very few.

This is the former residence of the Imai family who were wealthy merchants in what today is Mino City. Originally built in the middle of the Edo Period, it was reportedly expanded in the early Meiji Period. As paper merchants and the head of the village, they were extremely wealthy, and the house was the most splendid in the region. The Meiji Period addition included a three-meter skylight. The courtyard has an elegant suikinkutsu, used to make a special dripping sound, and has been designated as one of the Top 100 Soundscapes of Japan. Mino historic museum is at the back. Its Udatsu Kura has displays on udatsu (old roof ridges) and you can learn about Niwaka (an impromptu comic play) in its Niwaka Kura.

A Shinto shrine located in the Kaededani Valley at the foot of Mt. Tennozan which was founded over 2,000 years ago. The current main shrine was built in 1672 and is notable for its extravagant carving and showy coloring similar to the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, a style which flourished in the early Edo period. The most magnificent structure in the city, this building is also designated a National Important Cultural Property. Some 3,000 Japanese mountain maples grow on the shrine’s grounds, making it one of the leading destinations for enjoying fall foliage in the prefecture. The shrine holds a Momiji Festival celebrating maples and fall foliage which lasts from early November to early December; the shrine also holds the Oyada Hinkoko Festival, a designated National Selected Intangible Folk-Cultural Property, in the spring and in the autumn.

This art gallery is located a 15-minute walk from Nagaragawa Railway Minoshi Station, and exhibits the Mino City’s prize-winning autumn “Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibit.” Inside the gallery, a town with udatsu walls (good for fire protection and symbolizing wealth) is reproduced in a soft and warm light through Mino washi (traditional Japanese paper). Although the work cannot be touched, you are free to take photographs. There is also a museum shop lined with highly artistic lanterns. The wooden two-stories building is a nationally registered tangible cultural property since it is a valuable structure that is as it was in the early Showa era (1926-1989).

The Akari Art Hall had many really amazing lanterns! You are allowed to take pictures inside so now my camera is filled with photos of the lanterns!! They are all handmade with Washi and are all lit...

    Gifu Pref. Minoshi Katadi
Kataji Gorge—where the river never runs dry even in periods of drought, and the river water remains pristine even after heavy rainfall—is an approximately six-kilometer-long gorge located at the foot of Mt. Fukubegatake, the highest mountain within the boundaries of Mino City. Kataji Gorge and the surrounding area have been designated as the Oku Nagara River Prefectural Natural Park. The many waterfalls of differing sizes (such as Meoto-daki Falls) are well worth seeing, as are the huge rocks and strangely shaped rock formations (such as Senjo-iwa); there is a two-kilometer-long footpath that visitors can follow along the Gorge.
  • Sinpu-sha, Gujo Hachiman Tourist Rickshaws
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Pref. Gujoushi Hachimanchoutonomachi 69
These are Gujo-Hachiman's only tourist rickshaws. The three main rickshaw stands are in front of the Former Gujo-Hachiman City Hall Memorial, Gujo-Hachiman Castle Town Plaza, and the Hakurankan. They'll pull you along and give you a tour of the old castle town of Gujo-Hachiman. Currently they only have a single employee pulling the rickshaws, so reservations must be booked in advance. If you let them know ahead of time, you can customize some options like where the rickshaw picks you up. They are also available for events and functions like pulling the bride along during weddings.
