    Gifu Takayama-shi Nyukawacho Otani 141
    The residence of the Arakawa family that have been in the area since the late 1500s. The family served as village officials during the Edo period. The main house and the storehouse were built in the middle of Edo period. The two-story house with a gabled roof raised between huge timber beams has been designated a National Important Cultural Property. This flat structured architectural style is widely distributed from eastern Takayama through Shokawa and along the Gujo Highway to Gujo in the west. The house is highly valuable due to a combination of its size, age, and superb design. Inside, there are folk tools and letters written by the warlord Date Masamune addressed to Kanamori Nagachika, the first lord of Hida-Takayama domain.

    丹生川村にある、この地方の名主さんの家です。昭和58年まで実際に住んでおられたそうです。重文ですが入場無料がうれしい。母屋と土蔵にこの地方の古い民具や書類が展示してあります。階段が大変急なので登り降りには気をつけてください。管理人の女性がいろいろ教えてくれますので、聞いてみて下さい。

    It is located next to a broad riverbed in the upper reaches of the Takaharagawa River along National Route 471. It sells local products, such as pure wasabi, pickled vegetables, and magnolia leaf miso in its souvenir shop and such local meals as dishes made with brook trout or Hida beef are served in its restaurant. The adjacent Oku Hida Onsen Village Auto Campground gives motorists the opportunity to take natural outdoor hot springs, and they also enjoy the Shin Hotaka Ropeway in Oku Hida Onsen Village, one of the foremost hot springs in the prefecture. It serves as a sightseeing base for Oku Hida, with its natural grandeur and hot springs, and one of the favorite souvenirs of the area, Hida Sansho Pepper, is a popular and appropriate seasoning for eel, Hida beef, and cheese.

    Roadside Station Sakura no Sato Shokawa is located near the Shokawa Interchange, where the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway intersects with Route 158. It stands on the same grounds as the Tokai Regional Bus Terminal and is convenient for transferring to express buses or local buses. Local products, including locally grown vegetables and wild plants and soba are displayed and sold. There is an adjacent hot spring bath facility, where visitors can enjoy in the every-changing seasonal mountain scenery while soaking in the bath. Of course, visitors can obtain information about tourism and transportation and enjoy cuisine typical of Hida Shokawa.

    This center at the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway's second boarding platform helps visitors enjoy themselves in the Northern Japan Alps. Their nature promenade provides a look at the trees, plant life, birds, and animals you'll encounter in Shin-Hotaka's natural environment, and their Alpine Theater shows aerial footage of the Northern Japan Alps as well as images of the changing seasons. They also provide area travel information and conduct guided walks and snowshoe tours. You can ease the fatigue of the mountains away at Shinpo-no-Yu, their natural hot spring.

    ビジターセンターは第1ロープウェイの終点駅から歩いて2〜3分のところにありました。今回は雨風が強く天気が最悪だったので、ビジターセンター内のビデオ(アルペンシアター?)で雄大なアルプスの絶景を見て帰りました。クマの剥製の展示などもありました。

    Gifu Takayama-shi Shokawacho
    A collection of traditional houses from Shokawa Village that have been relocated and preserved. The hip-and-gable roof gassho style houses are over 200 years old. One of them, the former Mishima residence, was built in 1763. It was the first building in the prefecture to incorporate a four-room floor plan, the basic structure of private houses in the Hida region. Each building is an important ethnographic museum that provides a sense of the lifestyle in those days. Annual maintenance keeps the buildings well preserved.

    古民家に入ってじっくり見れます。ペットも同伴OKです。人が少ないのにすごく手入れが行き届いてて、のんびりじっくり見て回れます。 古民家の縁側で昼寝したいぐらいいい雰囲気です。 高速道路ができてから荘川の観光客が減りましたが、逆にそこがいい穴場感になってます。

    Roadside Station Montdeus Hida Kuraiyama is located 30 minutes from the Takayama Interchange on the Chubu Jukan Expressway. It provides information about tourism and road conditions, and the restaurant Sakuraria serves lamb dishes, such as Miyamura Shigure Don and ice cream made in-house from Hida milk. A large slope extends out from the station, and from spring through fall, it is used for barbecues, as a dog park, or as a venue for radio-controlled car races, among other things, and in winter, it becomes a ski run.

    This teddy bear museum themed on the environment is about an eight-minute drive from JR Takayama Station. The museum is in a restored gassho (large thatched roof) style kominka (old house) built over 180 years ago, and has 1,000 teddy bears waiting to greet you. You can also take commemorative photos together with historic valuable bears and works by famous international and Japanese artists. In the adjacent Little Bear Cafe, you can enjoy meals, and also parfaits and handmade cakes made using local ingredients that are as organic as possible. The inside of the shop is lined with original bears, bears from around the world, and variety goods.

    Essendo in auto è stato facile da raggiungere in 15 min dal centro di Takayama ma non so se è facile arrivarci con altri mezzi. Se siete appassionati di Via del Te non potete perdervi questo museo...

    This area replicates traditional rural Japan replete with antique Japanese houses. It's about an hour drive from the Takayama Interchange on the Chubu Jukan Expressway. The central communal hot spring bath Isurugi no Yu has a traditional hearth and serves refreshments like goheimochi rice cakes, ice cream, and mousse. It has men's and women's indoor and outdoor bathing facilities and is known for its old-school Japanese ambiance. They also host Okuhida Onsenkyo's oldest morning market. The adjacent Fukuji Fossil Museum has displays of fossils excavated from Fukuchi Onsen that show the area was once at the bottom of the sea.

    平日の午後に1人で伺いました。バス停から歩いて数分の場所にあります。囲炉裏を囲んで座れる雰囲気のある建物です。五平もちは200円、20分ほど囲炉裏で炙れば出来上がりです。近くの宿の草円がオーナーとのこと。

    Gifu Takayama-shi Kokufucho Miyaji 1405-1
    Founded in the year 927, this Shinto shrine has been recorded since ancient times as one of the eight official shrines in Hida. The main hall visitors see today was rebuilt in 1390 and features early Muromachi period architecture including wooden shingle roofing. A nationally Designated Important Cultural Property, it honors Kahaku Daimyojin, a river and water deity. Lots of tourists visit for the annual festival held on the first Sunday of September featuring double-actor lion dances and hayashi music accompanied by flute and drums. The Kaneuchi lion dance ceremony, performed by dozens of children, is an Important Prefectural Intangible Cultural Asset.

    お正月、初詣に行きます。太鼓と笛の演奏とお祓いをして貰い、お神酒を飲みます。秋は農産物の収穫を祝う秋祭りがあり、獅子舞などやっていました。

    A famous lonesome cherry tree located in Takayama City. Records show this tree was growing here 1,100 years ago. The tree’s name means “Reclining Dragon Cherry” and alludes to the tree’s low hung branches which again take root in the ground, giving it the appearance of a dragon lying down. The surrounding area was once the grounds of the Daito-ji Temple but was turned into Garyu Park in 1989. A cherry blossom festival is held here each year in mid-April. In 1973, the tree was designated a National Natural Monument.

    This ancient temple has a statue of the Nyoirin Kannon created in Magadha India as its principal object of worship. At first it was enshrined in Kyoto's Kennin-ji, but for some reason Mitsuki Yoritsuna converted and it was said that Shingonshu Zenno-ji was created in 1558, the year in which Hida was suppressed. Afterwards, it caught fire and changed places repeatedly and in 1835 it located itself in this area. At the Jizo-do made by zelkova a life size stone jizo is enshrined and the local people visit it to pray for good health and longer life. Around the 13th Century, the zazen-do which was created in imitation of the Chinese architecture, you can try out zazen which strengthens one's concentration.

    高山駅から徒歩20分ほど。 素玄寺の塔頭。東山寺院群の一寺。1558年に真言宗の寺院として創建。1626年に曹洞宗に改宗。1835年に現在地に移転。本尊は如意輪観世音菩薩。飛騨三十三観音霊場の5番札所。現本堂は1925年の再建で木造銅板葺き。境内には地蔵菩薩を祀る「願王殿」がある。

    A pass located between Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture and Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. Situated 1,800 meters above sea level, the pass is a stunning place from which to view sweeping scenery of the Hida Mountains (Northern Alps). A parking area is located at the end of the pass’s climb, and the view from here is spectacular. Visitors driving along the pass can enjoy the beautiful forms of Mt. Yakedake and Mt. Hotakadake, selected as two of Japan’s 100 most famous mountains, and take pictures of mountains some 3,000 meters high. Currently the Abo-Toge Road is the primary pass route, but an older road is also style used by many for touring. Note that the pass is closed to traffic in winter from mid-November to May.

    A large waterfall located a 12 minute walk from Hirayu Otaki Park. The waterfall is mentioned in the legend of the founding of the Hirayu Onsen hot spring district. The waters of this powerful six meter wide, 64 meter tall waterfall flow over a giant bedrock shelf. The waterfall is also a renowned destination for enjoying fall foliage which attracts many visitors. The waterfall is lit up during the Hirayu-Otaki Keppyo Festival, creating a magical spectacle. Considered one of the three great waterfalls in the Hida region, this popular waterfall has also been selected as one of Japan’s one hundred best and as one of the 50 best water-related sites in Gifu Prefecture. Area visitors can enjoy lovely scenery here, including Japanese white birch in early summer, mountains colored by fall foliage in autumn, and the waterfall itself beautiful frozen solid in winter.

    This veteran business has offered a tourist rickshaw service for over 40 years since 1970. They have rickshaw stands at the Kamisannomachi and Yanagibashi intersection and in front of Takayama Jinya's morning market. Climb on, relax, and watch the historic townscape of Takayama roll by. There are three options for each of their courses. You can also customize your course on request, and if you book in advance, they'll pick up from an accessible spot of your choice like your hotel or a station.

    This is the oldest remaining residence in Takayama City and is an National Important Cultural Property. Once the shop and home of a druggist known as “Harasan, it survived an 1875 fire that destroyed much of the town and is a rare example of an Edo period merchant residence. They knew when the house was built from writing on the pickle warehouse's window frame that read “April 27, 1826. The main house on the southern side of the property, rice granary to the north, and pickle warehouse to the west all border an inner courtyard. The façade small eaves and lattice bay windows reflect its significant value as typical architecture of the period.

    1875年の高山の大火を免れた貴重な江戸時代の町家です。高山市街中心部からだと少し外れていますが、ここに江戸時代が残っている感じの佇まいです。閉館中で外観からの見学となりました。天満宮の駐車場が近くにあるので車でも大丈夫です。

    Takayama Castle is a flatland mountain castle which was built on a mountain of 686.6 meters in height. The old fortress style with its two three-story watchtower-style castle towers are believed to have been influenced by Oda Nobunaga’s Azuchi Castle. Now the inner citadel, the outer citadel and inner enclosure are only partitioned by a dry moat, and there are no buildings remaining. In 1945 the castle ruins were designated as a Cultural Property of Japan.

    This historic district in Takayama City maintains the ambiance of an old merchant town. Sanmachi refers to the three streets running through the upper and lower parts of the district. It's also referred to as Sanmachi-dori. Commerce was essential to Takayama's growth as a castle town, and a distinctive street lined with traditional townhouses with black latticed doors developed in the Sanmachi area. It's been designated a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings and is a popular tourist spot. Today the charming traditional kominka houses along the street host establishments like souvenir shops, restaurants, and Japanese style cafes.

    A pass situated along National Route 158 traveling from Takayama to Matsumoto which is situated at the northern foot of Mt. Norikura 1,684 meters above sea level. Situated at the junction between the Norikura Skyline and Prefectural Route 485, the pass is a continuous stretch of sharp curves and steep slopes and is known as a difficult place to drive. Commanding a spectacular view of the Northern Japan Alps to the northeast and Mt. Hakusan to the west, in spring the entire mountain is enwrapped in light green Erman's birch leaves, while in fall maples and rowans dye it vivid, eye-catching colors.

    "This ancient Buddhist temple, located a 30-minute drive from JR Takayama Station, was founded some 1,200 years ago by Takaoka-shinno, one of the great monk Kobo Daishi 's 10 greatest disciples. The current temple was rebuilt after repeated fires destroyed the original complex. Serving as a dojo for Mt. Koya Shingon shuzen meditation, the temple teaches old fashioned mountain Buddhism. Also known as the ""Enku-butsu Temple,"" the temple's Enku-butsu-dera Treasure Hall, close to the Daiji-mon gate, is open to the public and displays a portion of the temple's treasures and 64 Enku-butsu statues such as a depiction of Two Faced Sukuna and Dharmapala (hall is closed in winter). The temple also offers day trip Buddhist training courses such as sermns, sutra copying, and meditation."
