"A coffee shop at Shinhotaka Onsen Station, the boarding point for the Shinhotaka Ropeway. They serve coffee and soft drinks and casual fare like curry rice and Hida beef croquettes that you pick up yourself when your order is called. The shop's specialty is wasabi soft serve ice cream that's colored a refreshing green. It's lightly sweet with a pleasant wasabi aroma. Gifu Takayama-shi Hachimanmachi 170-1 Hachimangu Keidai YATAI Hall Yoko
A cafe and gallery on the grounds of Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine. Attached to a Hida pottery shop, the cappuccino-loving senior couple who runs this cafe serves some great coffee. Their carefully hand-dripped java is nicely bitter with a pleasant flavor. They also sell items like affogato, sweet vanilla ice cream drizzled with bitter espresso, and cafe frappe, perfect for hot summers. Many tourists stop here for a break while visiting Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine or the Takayama Matsuri Yatai Kaikan.

Best Coffee on our trip so far. Very friendly service and welcome. Close to the Takayama Matsuri Yatai Kaikan. Beautiful selection of pottery and ceramics to purchase.

This cafe in Hida is a renovated traditional 's machiya house. The windows have finely latticed shutters, and you can look out at Hida's old townscape and passing rickshaws through the latticework. Drinks include coffee, matcha green tea, Japanese tea, and more. Gifu Pref. Takayamashi Kamisannomachi 67 Olda Sake Brewery
A hideaway-style café located in the Oita Shuzo brewery building, which was constructed over 150 years ago. The café’s signature item is its soufflé roll, a roll cake which is flavored differently and topped with different things depending on the time of year—for example, in February, it’s topped with strawberry ice cream, while in November is topped with caramel and a broiled banana. The shop’s handmade warabimochi bracken starch dumplings, served in summer, are so popular they sell out by the early afternoon. One of the most charming things about the café is its many seasonal only items, such as the Hida apple crumble, only offered in fall and winter, which is particularly popular with women. The café also sells Japanese knickknacks.

Such a lovely cafe to sit in and have a cup of tea. We didn’t try anything on the menu but it looked nice, seemed to be traditional Japanese desserts. We just had a cuppa each but the atmosphere...

Located amidst the Takayama City Sanmachi Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings, old-style streetscape in Kami-sannomachi, Hida-takayama City, Chanome is a modern Japanese café. It is based on the concept of serving items made from the finest ingredients at a reasonable price. An especially popular item is the soft-serve ice cream made exclusively with 100% high-grade matcha tea, ground in the stone mortar near the entrance to the shop. The bite-sized Taiyaki (waffle-like confections filled with bean jam) come in five flavors and are perfect for either eating inside the café or while walking around town. In the summer, the café sells Maruppo Mikan, frozen mikan (Mandarin oranges) on a chopstick skewer.

A café located right next to Takayama Station on the JR Takayama Main Line. The coffee shop was also famously operated by the family of Japanese celebrity Michiko Shimizu and today, the café is managed by her younger brother. The café is filled with antique furniture and timepieces, and here customers can enjoy a relaxing meal enwrapped in the establishment’s old-fashioned atmosphere and the jazz flowing over the stereo. The café is open from 7:30 a.m. and serves toast and sandwich breakfast set meals. The seasonal fresh fruit juices and cakes created by Michiko (who worked as a pastry chef) are also recommended.

This Japanese-style cafe uses a 180 year-old machiya (traditional townhouse) and is located in Hida Takayama, an area with an old townscape that is an important traditional architecture preservation district. The interior has high ceilings, and is decorated with the prints of local artists. You can drink coffee while gazing at the townscape through the latticework from the second floor seating for a touch of elegance. Their popular offerings include homemade zenzai (sweet red bean soup) using large Tokachi-grown red beans that are carefully boiled, cream anmitsu (small cubes of “Kanten” agar jelly and sweet rice dumplings topped with ice cream), and their snack set with sweet red bean toast and a drink. They also sell postcards with woodblock prints.

We were a party of 4 people but only 3 of us wanted something to drink. The bar was emty but We were forced to pay 200 yen for the person that didn’t want to have anything. Is this legal?
