    "Omeiso is a ryokan (traditional inn) located in the Kakino Onsen area of the city of Toki, Gifu Prefecture. Its special feature is a hot spring at the foot of Mt. Mikuni that contains large amounts of radium, and with its purported ability to produce glowing skin, it is called ""the Beauty Spring."" It can be enjoyed all year round. During the fall, the autumn leaves are illuminated, allowing guests to enjoy Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine or wild boar stew in a relaxing atmosphere.     This footbath is an easy way to enjoy Gero Onsen, one of Japan's top three hot springs along with Arima Onsen in Hyogo Prefecture and Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture. Popular with locals and tourists alike, it's in a fine location about a 17-minute walk from Gero Station in the park next to the Gero City Hall. The name is associated with the Tanokami Festival held at the local Mori Hachiman Shrine. There's a hot spring fountain in front of it. Made of stone from Mt. Ontake and the nearby Ogawa River, it's good for hand baths.

    "A hot spring footbath with germanium in the water, unlike the rest of Gero Onsen. This area was originally called ""Shimodomari"" as Japanese reading, but later called ""Geru"" as Chinese reading, and finally is called ""Gero"". Located a bit away from central Gero near Kaiseki Yado and Suihouen, it has an off-the-beaten-track feel. It's a great place to unwind while gazing at Gero Onsen Gassho Village, the 10 gassho-style houses that have been relocated from Shirakawa-go."
  • Sagi no Ashiyu Footbath

    This was Gero Onsen's first footbath. The name derives from a 700-year-old legend of a white crane (sagi) that descended on the spot, letting the villagers know where the hot spring welled up. The cypress wood footbath is across from Kaeru Shrine, on a street lined with restaurants and old-style inns. The clean facility can accommodate five people sitting side-by-side, relaxing and easing their fatigue away. It's just a simple bath, bench, and a roof, but as it's right next to the central parking lot, someone always seems to be there.

    "A footbath on the grounds of the Gero Royal Hotel Miyabitei, a seven-minute walk from Gero Station. The gold colored bath has a motif of money and the Seven Lucky Gods in the form of Sarubobo, a mascot of the Hida region. Lots of people take their pictures with these gods on their ""treasure ship."" Drawing on a natural hot spring, it has properties such as improving blood circulation and easing the fatigue of tired feet. It's open to hotel guests and non-guests alike."
  • Miyabi no Ashiyu Footbath

    A footbath in front of the entrance to Gero Royal Hotel Miyabitei in the center of town. It's free and open to everyone whether staying at the hotel or not. The baths have a curved bench and can be used by up to eight people at a time. Small balls made of cypress wood at the bottom of the bath help undo the tension in the soles of tired feet. It's a little up from the stairs at the hotel entrance, so you can take a time and relax without caring about the comings and goings of the visitors . The shop behind it sells soft serve ice cream.

    This hot spring boasts having one of the highest radium contents in Japan. The mineral spring has an old history, and it is said that the fallen warriors chased by Shingen Takeda were hiding when they found this spring and used it to heal their wounds. The vast site of over 250 square meters is located in a valley with rivers running through it, surrounded by clean air and abundant nature. Rail-MTB Gattan Go!! (canyon course), where you can bike on the rails of the former Kamioka Railway by mountain bike, is only a ten-minute drive away, and bathing in hot springs is great to wash away sweat after exercising. It has a big room filled with tatami mats.

    This small footbath is on Prefectural Route 475 running between Tochio Onsen and Shin-Hotaka. The nearby Kamata River is a popular spot for viewing fireflies. Lots of tourists visit during the summer to see them from the walkway along the river bank. Sometimes you can spot them from the footbath as well. It has a large umbrella-like roof, handy for inclement weather, and the large parking lot makes it a convenient rest spot while out for a drive.
