    This Japanese and Western sweet shop is in Koden, Gero City, Gifu Prefecture. Their Japanese sweet called “namadora with a filling of fresh cream and tsubuan bean paste sandwiched between pancakes made from local red eggs and milk is a local favorite. They also sell limited time items filled with the flavors of the season. Their “Wa-MORI-mori Parfait with fresh cream and fruit on kudzu mochi starch cake and sponge cake is popular too. It’s easy to hold on to and great for walking about the hot spring district.

    This tourist spot is approximately 15 minutes on foot from JR Takayama Station. Just a little to the east of Kajibashi Bridge, the three-story facility was built to fit the concept of a “city station. There are six shops including an Italian restaurant, a furniture shop, a souvenir shop, a cafe, and more, so visitors can enjoy the charm of Hida all in one place. The furniture store features tables with tops made from single cuts of wood. Other shops sell private brand items that can't be purchased elsewhere and hold workshops where you can try making them.

    A confectionery shop about a 15-minute walk from Hida-Furukawa Station. They use milk from the local Bokuseisha (an industry producing and selling milk and dairy products), fresh Momiji eggs (a brand egg whose eggshell color is brown) within two days after laying, and as much fruit as possible from the Hida region. The most popular item is the Gateau Swiss Roll, which is made of puff pastry sheet and sponge baked separately and rolled with fresh cream. There are many other items such as Genuine Swiss Roll featuring fluffy sponge, petit gateaux using seasonal fruits, baked sweets, and gifts.

    おせんべい、ロールケーキやチョコケーキとかの洋菓子が売っているお店で、とてもおいしく召し上がることが出来ました。特にロールケーキが美味しかったです。

    A souvenir shop located next to the Wada House, a designated National Important Cultural Property, a three minute walk from the Shirakawa-go Bus Terminal. Inside the traditional thatched roof building, you’ll find a wide variety of products. Many of the items sold here are made with doburoku unrefined sake, a Shirakawa-go specialty product, including doburoku yokan jelly and doburoku kintsuba flour dough sweet bean cakes. The shop also carries tsukemono Japanese pickles, snacks, and sake. The shop’s small thatched roof home-shaped knickknacks and sarubobo lucky amulet dolls make perfect souvenirs. The shop’s crepe sarubobo dolls can be found no place else and come in a variety of colors, so you can choose your favorite.

    Located beside Gero Onsen Shrine on Gero's onsen street, you can snack on this shop's original sweets while soaking in a foot bath. Their Ontama Soft is a fusion of Gero Onsen slow-cooked egg and soft serve ice cream, and their warm Honwaka Pudding is heated in a hot spring. They also carry a variety of merchandise like Onsen Cosmetics made with Gero Onsen's beautifying hot spring water, products with Hida beef, traditional Hida district handicrafts and folk items, standard souvenirs like small goods made with antique cloth, and Yuamiya original merchandise.

    This direct sales stop has an exterior with characteristically simple rustic gassho (large thatched roof) architecture. It is located a 50-minute bus ride from JR Takayama Station, and is situated at the entrance to the world heritage site of Shirakawago from the Hietsukyo Gassho Line. It sells mainly locally-grown vegetables and processed goods, richly preparing the flavors that represent Shirakawago throughout the year including spring mountain vegetables, summer vegetables, autumn chestnuts, and the winter specialty, “akakabura naga-zuke” (radish pickled without removing leaves). In addition, it sells interesting products filled with care such as steamed cake using local ingredients, onigiri rice balls and butterbur shoot miso.

    This facility is located a short walk from Nagara Railway’s Gujo-Hachiman Station in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. There is a restaurant where you can eat a Hida beef rice bowl set and hoba-yaki (grilled beef on magnolia leaf) and learn how to make matcha green tea, and a souvenir shop where you can purchase specialties such as Myogata or Meiho ham, or hoba miso (miso grilled with onion on magnolia leaves). In addition, with the cooperation of Iwasaki Company, maker of food samples, you can experience making samples of things like tempura and lettuce. They also sell key chains and straps using plastic food samples.

    A gift shop located on the second floor of the Active G mall connected directly to JR Gifu Station. Serving as a space for providing information about local Gifu products, the shop carries some 1,500 products produced in the prefecture at any given time, from furniture and knickknacks to foods. The shop’s shelves are filled with handpicked items, including sake cups from Gifu’s Toki region, an area known for its abundant production of ceramics; local Gifu liquors; and ultra-sharp knives from Seki City, a renowned cutlery production center and birthplace of such famous swordsmiths as Magoroku Kanemoto and Izuminokami Kanesada.

    This interior shop located a 15-minute walk from JR Takayama Station Norikura Gate is operated by Hida Sangyo, a furniture company that has inherited the traditions and skills of Hida’s famous furniture craftsmen. The Main Buildings’s first floor features a showcase of the company’s country-style brands, the Kitsutsuki Komono Gallery, a showcase with local arts and crafts and other accessories, and the Sabo Kitsutsuki cafe. The Mori no Kotoba no Ie showcase features a complete kitchen, dining room, living room, and bedroom furnished with their Words from the Forest brands. The Designer’s Room Hida showcase located in the Outlet Building, which displays the work of independent furniture designers, is also worth a visit.

Dedicated to the concept of “tying the town together,” the facility operates as a center for regional revitalization and engages in a variety of projects, including regional events and developing new products and markets. The facility hosts a tourist information center, café, ceramics classroom, and gallery, as well as a variety of special shops from all over selling goods from the Tokai region, sweets, foods, ceramics, and handmade items.

    This shop on Hida Takayama's Bunnemonzaka Shopping Street specializes in the local Takayama sweet known as kokusen. They've maintained the handcrafted tradition of their flagship item since they opened in 1892. These sweets with a single twist are made with charcoal fire roasted sesame seeds held together with mizuame syrup, then stretched and cut into bit-sized pieces. Being handmade, they have just the right texture, with an exquisite sweetness and the fine flavor of their carefully selected ingredients. Kids like the shop's soft genkotsu sweets made with a blend of kinako soy flour and brown sugar.

    Founded in 1868, this bean sweet shop is in the town area northwest of the Takayama Castle Ruins. Their “Mishimamame is a local favorite and is said to be the oldest bean sweet in Japan. It’s made of roasted soybeans coated with high-quality sugar and green laver, and mixed with salty ryokuto beans, making it the perfect sake snack. Their popular Nishiki-gaya featuring Japanese nutmeg is only available from late November to April. Many of their products have been featured on TV and in magazines, and Emperors have received them as gifts on many occasions.

    A morning market counted as one of the three largest in Japan which is held each morning in a plaza before the Takayama Jinya former regional administrative headquarters a 10 minute walk from JR Takayama Station. The market was started in the Edo period as a mulberry market; from the mid- Meiji period, local farmers began selling their produce here, ultimately resulting in the market as it exists today. A variety of tented stalls large and small operate in the market, selling fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits; flowers; and folk crafts. Visitors can enjoy shopping while listen to the sounds of the regional Takayama dialect as customers and sellers interact. The folk crafts sold here such as sarubobo, traditional protective amulets native to the Hida region, are all handmade and unique.

    This shop offers souvenirs and food takeout, and is located in Kami-sannomachi, a castle town area from old Hida Province where the old townscape remains. They sell various food products perfect for eating while walking such as steamed Hida beef buns that overflow with savoriness the more you chew, Hida beef croquette, Hida peach, and soft-serve ice cream made using milk from Hida cows. Popular souvenirs include original dressing using Hida-grown vegetables, jam made from small cranberries, raspberry and Chinese lanterns, tempura salt and lemon salt.

    飛騨牛のコロッケをいただきました。アツアツでおいしかったです。 散策途中で小腹が空いた時にちょうどいい。

    This porcelain shop is a little to the east of Kajibashi Bridge. Founded in 1841 and run by Houkokusha, to this day they continue to make hand painted Shibukusa-yaki chinaware. This is the only place Houkokusha’s products are available. Since everything is meticulously hand painted, their pieces aren’t cheap, but they’re high quality. People often give them as gifts, and Japanese people sometimes choose them as a reward for participating in the “countryside tax system. Their hallmark product is a tea bowl painted with chrysanthemums inside and out. If you hold it up to the light you can see how beautifully the patterns are rendered.

The shop’s showcases are filled with Parisian-style cakes, cookies, madeleines, and other baked sweets actively incorporating local ingredients. The Mont Blanc is particularly popular—instead of being topped with chestnut cream or strings of chestnut paste, this shop’s delicious Mont Blanc are filled with flavorful chestnut cream and topped with elegant whipped cream.

With a cafe space near the entrance, you can enjoy a relaxing tea or sweets while resting in Hida furniture chairs.

They process timber harvested from the rich surrounding environment and create designs that utilize its natural grain and form. The furniture is solid wood, without veneer or plywood, and is so durable that you can use the pieces for decades. In addition to furniture like tables, chests, and stools, they also sell smaller items like pendulum clocks.

    This veteran tofu shop handcrafts their product the old-fashioned way, cherishing the Hida Takayama style that's been handed down through the generations. Their hallmark product is a local specialty known as “agezuke. Made of hand-fried special tofu skin and completed with their own secret sauce, it's even been featured on television. The lightly fried outside is crispy, with a soft center. They sell other traditional food from the Hida region too, like flavorful komotofu with its spongy texture.

    訪問したのが、夕方で 当然ながら「あげづけ」は売り切れでしたが 待てるのであれば… との事で急遽作っていただけました。 作りたてを店の中でいただきましたが、 とっても美味しかったです。

    Yubayu Shoten is a shop specializing in yuba (tofu skin), located about a six-minute walk from Kinkabashi Bridge in the city of Gifu. Founded in 1867, it is a venerable shop that manufactures and sells fresh yuba and dried yuba. Its yuba is made from subsoil water from the Nagaragawa River and from 100% carefully selected, domestically produced soybeans. It is known for its texture and body and is used by many restaurants all over Japan. The shop sells the highest grade of yuba, Kumiage Yuba, as well as Sashimi Yuba, and many customers swear by its thickly rich flavor and the way it goes down. All products are well worth trying.
