"Nihon Taisho Mura is a theme park located a five-minute walk from Akechi Station on the Akechi Railway. Volunteers manage and staff the park which is based on the concept of ""Nihon Taisho Mura, streetscapes and customs of the past."" Akechi was once a town full of yarn-making factories, and a streetscape of shops, houses, a library, and a museum from the Taisho period (1912-1926) have been recreated there and contain displays of materials and artifacts pertaining to Taisho culture. Visitors can feel as if they are in a time warp if they take the ""Haikarasan Course,"" in which they dress up in hakama (traditional culotte-style trousers) and roam around the streets in which the atmosphere of the Taisho period remains."

The Shishi Hall (Shishi Kaikan) is a museum in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture that is dedicated to Karakuri. Karakuri are mechanically-operated moving human figures and models that are displayed on the floats that parade through Takayama during the Takayama Matsuri (Takayama Festival), one of the “Three Great Festivals of Japan”; they are controlled using strings, springs and clockwork, etc. The Shishi Hall’s “Karakuri Performance,” in which visitors are able to see how expertly the Karakuri are operated, was selected as a one-star item in the Michelin Travel Guide. There is also a display of approximately 300 ceremonial “lion heads” from all over Japan; as the only exhibition of its kind in Japan, this lion-head display has been designated as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property.

Amazing exhibition of the floats used during processions which are huge and finely decorated. Well worth a visit

This is the former residence of the Imai family who were wealthy merchants in what today is Mino City. Originally built in the middle of the Edo Period, it was reportedly expanded in the early Meiji Period. As paper merchants and the head of the village, they were extremely wealthy, and the house was the most splendid in the region. The Meiji Period addition included a three-meter skylight. The courtyard has an elegant suikinkutsu, used to make a special dripping sound, and has been designated as one of the Top 100 Soundscapes of Japan. Mino historic museum is at the back. Its Udatsu Kura has displays on udatsu (old roof ridges) and you can learn about Niwaka (an impromptu comic play) in its Niwaka Kura.

Very interesting old residence. Beautiful garden and well kept hidden treasure. Will be back again in the future.

The collective term for 13 waterfalls located in a nature park a 15 minute drive from JR Hida-Kokufu Station along Prefectural Route 479. The name of the falls is derived from a local tale known as the “Legend of Yosohachi.” A highly secluded area, visitors can enjoy the sight of the 18.8 meter tall Otaki falls and other waterfalls splashing down rocky walls amidst seasonal scenery. This scenery has been selected in a variety of lists of Japan’s most beautiful locations, including the 100 best examples of natural scenery to preserve in the 21st century, Gifu Prefecture’s 50 most beautiful water areas, and the 33 most beautiful locals to enjoy fall foliage in the Hida-Mino area. This art gallery is located a 15-minute walk from Nagaragawa Railway Minoshi Station, and exhibits the Mino City’s prize-winning autumn “Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibit.” Inside the gallery, a town with udatsu walls (good for fire protection and symbolizing wealth) is reproduced in a soft and warm light through Mino washi (traditional Japanese paper). Although the work cannot be touched, you are free to take photographs. There is also a museum shop lined with highly artistic lanterns. The wooden two-stories building is a nationally registered tangible cultural property since it is a valuable structure that is as it was in the early Showa era (1926-1989).

A MUST when in Mino. It is very beautiful. An exhibition of many lanterns and paper craft. It was my second visit here.

Most of the collection consists of woodblock print ukiyo-e such as “The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido” of his mature period, and the exhibits change nearly every month. An interactive, activity-oriented science museum, one of only a few in the country, located a 10-minute drive from the Mizunami Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. The museum has very few exhibits, and instead visitors can deepen their interest and understanding of science while having fun participating in the various experiments and creation events the museum holds. Enjoy a variety of experiments and experiences like the museum's hour long science shows combining images projected on a big screen with experiments performed on a stage, and special workshops where you can enjoy an experiment show conducted right in front of your eyes. The museum also holds public courses through which you can explore science more deeply.

The museum introduces from various perspectives the world of Shisai style paper patchwork, with its traditions and hidden possibilities for the future, and history and techniques of Mino washi traditional Japanese paper passed down in the Mino area. The first exhibition room introduces the production areas of washi paper throughout Japan, history of washi, and papermaking technology. In the second exhibition room, they give concrete suggestions about practical uses of washi paper in everyday living spaces. In addition, you can also have a “papermaking experience” using authentic tools and natural ingredients in the workshop.

Enakyo Wonderland is located around eight minutes’ drive from the Ena Interchange of the Chuo Expressway.
