    Travel / Tourism
    Nagano Omachi-shi Miasa 3342
This renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing is connected to the legend of the lady Shizuka Gozen. A cherry tree on the grounds believed to be around 800 years old is said to have grown from a cane Shizuka Gozen stuck in the ground here before she died, unable to reunite with her lover the samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune. The park's cherry trees bloom from late May to early June; dog cherries, a variety with lovely five millimeter blossoms similar to plum blossoms, are the first to bloom. Visitors can take in the beautiful cherry trees and surrounding rural landscape while pondering Lady Shizuka's sad tale.

A park situated partway up Mt. Higashi overlooking Omachi City. A renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing, the park's trees come into bloom from mid- to late April. In addition, the avenue of cherry trees in the Omachi Onsenkyo hot spring village is decorated with paper lanterns from April 14 to May 6, so be sure to stroll this picturesque area before or after going flower viewing in the park.
