    This art museum located inside of the Azumino Chihiro Park in the Matsukawa Village district of Kita-Azumi County, Nagano Prefecture collects and displays works by picture book artists from around the world including Chihiro Iwasaki. In addition to displays about Chihiro’s representative works, related items, and career, the museum also introduces the history of picture books and a collection of original pictures from picture books around the world. The museum is complete with facilities sure to delight children such as a reading room where they can read their choice from approximately 3,000 picture books as well as a play area for small children. There is also a picture book café where visitors can relax while gazing out at Japan’s Northern Alps (Hida Mountains).

    This facility was opened in 1958 with the goal of preserving the works of Rokuzan Ogiwara, nicknamed the “Rodin of the East.” In addition to his masterpiece carvings such as “Woman” and “Despair,” the museum also displays the works of Kotaro Takamura, who was deeply connected to Rokuzan. The impressive building, covered in ivy and church-like in appearance, is beloved as a symbol of the Azumino region. A 10-minute walk from JR Hotaka Station.

    安曇野を訪問した際、最も行きたかった美術館。まず、今井兼次設計の赤レンガの美術館そのものが見所満載。ドアの取っ手や、暖炉など細かいところも興味深い。館内の展示も素晴らしい。碌山の代表作、女をはじめとして、時間を忘れてしまいます。美術ファン、建築ファンには強くおすすめです。

    This is a private art museum in the center of Matsumoto City. The museum houses a collection of pieces by artists connected to Matsumoto City such as world-famous avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama, calligrapher Shinzan Kamijo, and lifelong Shinshu (Nagano) natural vista painter Kazuo Tamura. Special exhibitions and exhibitions of works submitted by the general public are held at the museum several times each year. A 12-minute walk from JR Matsumoto Station.

    This art museum is located along Prefectural Route 308 in Hotakaariake, Azumino City. It opened in 1993 as the first museum in the world to focus on the works of Armenian painter Jean Jansem, who did his work in France. The exhibitions feature Jansem’s oil paintings, watercolors, sketches, and woodblock prints, though sometimes works by other domestic and international artists are exhibited as well. The adjoining cafe offers a place to relax, and you can also enjoy a stroll through the verdant garden.

    This is an art museum within Akamatsu Forest, Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture, displaying mainly the original pictures from contemporary picture books from Japan and abroad. They collect original pictures from works such as Bernadette Watts’ The Little Match Girl and Delia Cancela’s “Alice in Wonderland,” and several times a year hold planned exhibits. They give particular attention to the works of Kenji Miyazawa. There are a number of facilities including library with around 8,000 picture books, a museum shop, and cafe where one can enjoy handmade cake and lunch. Also popular as a wedding venue, cottage accommodation is available too.

    This lacquer art museum is located along Prefectural Route 307 in Hotakakitahotaka, Azumino City. You’ll find everything from traditional lacquerware to art made using new techniques pioneered by Setsuro Takahashi, a native of Hotaka. You’ll also find Takahashi’s parents’ home, which is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and can give you an idea about what life in Azumino was like at the time.

    豊田市美術館にもあるんですよ！ご縁で。40回は行ったかな？本場はココ！昔の作風が好きですね。近作はキラキラガラスやら何やらちょっと…好みのわかれるところでしょうか？漆工芸は大好きなので心に残る作家さんです！

    This art museum is located in Hotakaariake, Azumino City. It opened in 1983 and is based on the concept of “displaying only mountain paintings at the base of the Northern Alps.” Permanent exhibits include works by Genichiro Adachi, Mizuki Kato, famous mountain painters, and currently active artists who specialize in depicting mountains.

    穂高駅前の観光案内所で借りた自転車で２０分、近づくほどに看板が少なくなり右側の看板を見落とし１kmほど先まで行ってしまったが 緑に囲まれた小さな美術館に着き、お目当ての武本嘉成を楽しむことができた。

    You’ll find this art museum in Hokujo, Hakuba Village. The collection includes works by over 80 painters, including mountain artists Kazuo Tamura, Shinichiro Adachi and Daigoro Yamashita as well as Kiyoshi Yamashita, Yayoi Kusama, and others. The exhibits feature over 100 different works showcasing various perspectives of Hakuba and the Northern Alps (Hida Mountains). After enjoying the works, relax in the tea room while gazing at the over 300 types of flowers in the garden.

    静かな美術館でした。所蔵、展示作品はあまり多くはないですが、作品と美術館の雰囲気がマッチして楽しめました。 安曇野からの雄大な山岳風景画など大きな作品が多く結構迫力ありました。

    A two-minute walk from the Yasuharamachi bus stop and a 15-minute drive from the Matsumoto Interchange. This art museum can be reached by traveling from the Takahashi Family Residence the north of Matsumoto Castle and walking a short distance east along Okachimachi Street. The museum's standing collection consists of 50 pieces by Yasuka Sudo, a painter who created around 1,000 works of art up to the time of his death at age 30 on the themes of light, darkness, and life. The artist's work has won numerous awards at events such as the Tokyo International Mini Print Triennial and the France-Japan Multinational Contemporary Art Exhibition. The museum also holds special exhibitions. Elementary and junior high school students, as well as students attending a high school in the prefecture, can enter the museum for free.

    You’ll find this art museum in “Azumino Ikeda Craft Park” located in Aisome, Ikeda Town.     This art museum is located near the Azumino City Hall Toyoshina office. It features approximately 2,000 of painter Yoshihei Miya’s works, some of which inspired Mori Ogai’s novels. There are also about 200 works by Hiroatsu Takata, a giant of Japanese modern sculpture, and about 170 sketches by Kuni Kobayashi. The regular exhibitions aim to showcase the artists’ entire careers. There’s also a free garden modeled after a medieval monastery.

    コーヤードバイマリオット白馬はラフォーレリノベのホテル。泊まって前に白い建物があったので入ったら美術館でした。開いていましたが、誰もいません。シャガールの絵もありません。白馬の写真展があっただけです。ひっそりして誰もいないので、ホントに気味悪くて、とてもきれいな館内ですが、早々に退出しました。ホテル内には案内がありましたけど、泊り客で訪れる人、少なそうでした。泊り客は無料のようです。
