    This memorial hall is located along the Japanische Romantische Strabe in Oiwake, Karuizawa and is dedicated to author Tatsuo Hori. Known for titles such as “The Wind Has Risen,” many of his novels are set in Karuizawa. By the time he died in 1944, he had spent about nine years in Oiwake. The many manuscripts and letters offer a window into his literary style and life.

    Chuzenji Temple was built nearly 800 years ago (toward the end of the Heian period), and it is said to be the oldest temple not only in Nagano Prefecture, but the entire Chubu and Kanto regions. It has been designated an Important Cultural Property (structure). It is surrounded by trees and has a calm atmosphere that lets you feel the history of the place.

    This church full of history and located in Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County Nagano Prefecture began in 1921 as a small wooden building, and was the origin of the Free Education of Art Salon  movement that attracted cultured people such as Hakushu Kitahara and Toson Shimazaki. The building, which is enveloped in the nature of Karuizawa, is characteristic for its pointy triangular roof. As a church that is open to all people, it holds gospel worship every Sunday and events in accordance with the season. It is also popular as a place for resort weddings.

    This art museum collects and exhibits works with a theme of ''artists who crossed the oceans.'' Its primary collection features works by artists including Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara, Shusaku Arakawa, Atsuko Tanaka, and Ayako Rokkaku. The museum also features a gallery where visitors can purchase artwork. Admission includes a complementary cup of tea and a snack, allowing visitors to soak up impressions of the artwork at a relaxed pace. The museum closes over the winter from late November to mid-April. It is a five-minute drive from JR Karuizawa Station.

    軽井沢の森の中にこれぞ軽井沢と言った感じの美術館である。 シニア料金は８００円、昔は飲み物が出たらしいが、今はクッキー１ケがもらえる。 海を渡ったアーティスト展を開催中であった。 美術館の大きな窓からは、これぞ軽井沢と言った景色が見える。

    The Koumi-machi Kougen Museum of Art opened in 1997 and primarily showcases collections of works from the late Kesao Kuribayashi, a painter and former member of the “Kokugakai” society as well as a Koumi-machi local, and the late Tatsuzo Shimaoka, a potter who was a designated a Living National Treasure. Located at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, this art museum is at harmony with the surrounding environment and is famous for its unique exhibits on local artists, modern art, architecture, design, and more. It’s about one hour by car from the Sutama Interchange on the Chuo Expressway.

    八峰の湯のすぐ隣にある美術館。八峰の湯と町営バス停も一緒。有名な建築家がデザインしたようで、外観がとてもモダンで、レストランもあるようなので、八峰の湯とセットで周りたかったが、今回はバスの時間と合わず美術館は断念。どちらもゆっくりしたければ、午前中から行くか、車で行くしかないようだった。

    "This history museum is on the grounds of Otemon Park in Ote, Komoro City. The building itself was where high-ranking officials like Daimyo would stay during their alternate attendance to the capital during the Edo period. It was relocated to its current location, where it was reconstructed as faithfully as possible before becoming a museum. In addition to exhibits on Komoro's history as a post town, they rent out a room called the ""Jodan-no-ma"" where the Daimyo used to stay. There is also a handicraft gallery and a cafe."

    無料で入れる歴史資料館といったところです。小諸駅大手門公園内に有る建物で、説明書からですが18~19世紀に建てられました。小諸宿の賑やかな時代を想像させる古民家です。

    Famous as an example of large gate architecture representative of eastern Japan, this castle gate is inside Otemon Park located in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture. Inside the turret, there are limited time special exhibitions that are free to view. In addition, it has been selected as a nationally-designated Important Cultural Property, making it visited by many tourists.

    Komoro Municipal Komoro Gijuku Memorial Museum was the restored and reconstructed form of the “Komoro Private School,” which was founded in 1893 by Christian minister Kumaji Kimura. It is located across from the old school grounds that were in Kaikoen Park near Komoro Station. You’ll find exhibitions featuring materials related to the educational institution, which was ahead of its time in terms of offering a modern education.

    徴古館の裏手から少し上がった所にある施設です。明治中頃に設けられた私塾です。建物前には桜の木があって、桜の花がとても美しかったです。玄関でスリッパに履き替えて入室します。壁の四隅にある展示ケースや天井近くには当時の塾の歴史や塾で使われていた教科書、手紙・写真などが数多く展示されています。二階にも同様の資料が展示されていて、明治時代の人間教育の様子が直に伝わってきます。

    "An art museum located in Komaba Park near central Saku City. Their permanent exhibition features one of Japan's most famous painters, Hirayama Ikuo, and his masterpiece called ""Bukkyo Denrai."" Planned exhibits are also sometimes held. Since opening in 1983 the museum has received many donations from collectors and artists. This includes a collection from the late Yui Ichiji of Nihonga, oil paintings, and crafts. Their current collection contains over 3,000 pieces."

    "This museum is part of the Ecole Miyota cultural complex. Its themes cover the Jomon period between 15,000 and 2,500 years ago, as well as Mt. Asama, a symbol of Nagano. There are 13 sub-themes and displays include pit dwellings and hunting tools. More than 100 of the items are National Important Cultural Properties. There are plentiful workshops that take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour making Jomon pottery, building fires, and making comma-shaped magatama beads and ""Jomon coasters."""

    An outdoor sculpture museum located on the Utsukushigahara Highlands in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture which displays some 350 modern art sculptures on a meadow 2,000 meters above sea level. Dotted with pieces by such famed domestic and international artists as César Baldaccini, Alexander Liberman, Izumi Ando, and Masuo Ikeda, the museum’s meadow is truly a stunning sight. The museum is also surrounded by magnificent mountains, and lovely mountain plants bloom from spring to fall. The museum is open from late April to mid-November.

    A folk museum located in Oiwake, Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County, Nagano Prefecture. Looking at the history and culture of the Nakasendo Road and the local area of Oiwake from its origins in ancient times to today, the museum's exhibits primarily focus on the period when Oiwake was a flourishing post station town on the Nakasendo Road. Through exhibits such as dioramas recreating what buildings in the area once looked like, visitors can come in contact with the history of Oiwake. The museum also holds special exhibitions and interactive history courses for children.

    堀辰雄文学館に張られていたフランス人浮世絵師ポール・ジャクレーのポスターを観て展示会場の郷土館に出かけた。1階が追分にまつわるもので復元された茶屋と鎧や日用品などが展示されていた。絵の会場は2階でジャクレーは3歳の時来日し1960年64歳の時軽井沢で亡くなったという。木版画21点とスケッチや写真などの展示で版画というジャンルのためかとてもフランス人の作品とは思えない展覧会だった。

    "A Buddhist temple located in Oiwake, Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County, Nagano Prefecture. The temple was founded by the fifth head priest of the Sentouji Temple in Gunma Prefecture in 1598. The temple is in possession of the Toothache Jizo statue depicted in author Tatsuo Hori's story ""Juka,"" and a haiku monument dedicated to calligrapher Kokaku Inagaki as well as a mound in which some of his retired brushes were ritually buried in."

    追分宿にあります。かわいいお地蔵さんがたくさんいて、楽しめるお寺です。駐車場もありゆっくり散策できます。

    This art museum is located within “Karuizawa Taliesin,” a leisure facility located on the lakeside of Lake Shiozawa in Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County, Nagano Prefecture. It is on the second floor of the Western-styled Karuizawa Post Office, built in 1911. It contains and displays 200 watercolor paintings of Kouko Fukazawa, a Western-style painter who loved Karuizawa and painted many plateau flowers. You can also see displays with seasonal themes or recreated ateliers. The first floor is an Italian restaurant with good pasta.

    軽井沢タリアセンにある美術館です。ペパーミントグリーンの歴史ある洋館が素敵でした。訪れたときは特別展の深沢紅子 屏風絵展が開催されていました。繊細なタッチの作品を鑑賞することが出来ました。

    This is a museum in Sanada Town, Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture. displaying materials related to the Sanada family. The history of the Sanada family is introduced through documents and arms focused mainly on Yukitaka Sanada, Masayuki Sanada, and Yukimura Sanada, members of the 24 generals of Shingen Takeda, and Yukimura’s brother Nobuyuki Sanada, the first lord of the Matsushiro feudal domain. A highlight is the sight of the restored armor and helmets belonging to Masayuki, Yukimura and Nobuyuki. At the connected Sanada-an one can try local cuisine like chestnut and sesame rice balls and Soba-Suiton (open only weekends and holidays from April 15 to the beginning of November, except in May when it is open every day).

    おはぎとすいとんをいただきました。特別味がいいとか素材がずば抜けているわけではありませんが、おばあちゃんたちの素朴な料理をいただけて満足でした。値段は安いです。

    This picture book museum displays original drawings and materials associated with picture books. In the First Exhibition Hall, you can view research materials on the culture and history of picture books. A permanent Peter Rabbit exhibition is also housed here. In the Second Exhibition Hall temporary exhibitions are held throughout the year depending on the season. The museum shop sells limited edition products related to the various temporary exhibitions. There are more than 1,800 picture books in the picture book library. The ‘Mori no Ie’ event space can be used for wedding receptions.

    人が3組くらいしかいなくて、静かで、とっても良かったです。 お庭が綺麗でした。 たくさんの絵本、ゆっくりみました。

    An art museum located near the top of Mt. Iizuna identifiable by its hexagonal steeple. The museum exhibits key pieces from the more than 50 year long career of Nihonga Japanese painter Eisetsu Shiratori, who was born in Komoro City and served as a member of the Japan Art Academy. The museum also displays works by Eisetsu's mentor Shinsui Ito, plus many works by locally-born artists and painters connected to the Komoro Gijuku school. Each year in summer, the museum holds an exhibition of work by insect photographer Kazuo Unno and, in winter, the museum hosts the Japan Art Direction Exhibition, which is only held at three locations nationwide.

    上信越道小諸インター付近。小高い丘の上に立ちサイロみたいな六角形の塔がランドマーク。入館料５００円。ＪＡＦ提示で一般団体券４００円。小諸市名誉市民の小山敬三画伯や白鳥英雪画伯のコーナーもありますが、市民ギャラリー的展示も散見。美術館から見渡す三六〇度のパノラマは眺望百選。目を見張るものがあります。
