    Nagano Pref. Matsumotoshi Adumi
    Kamikochi is an approximately 1,500 meter high gorge in the Chubu Sangaku National Park. Known as one of the top mountain scenic spots in the country it is designated as a special place of scenic beauty and natural monument. It is a gateway to the Northern Alps (Hida Mountains) and many tourists, mainly climbers and photographers visit each year. To help protect the environment the use of cars is restricted so it is recommended to use a shuttle bus service or taxi.

  • Nezame no Toko

    Nami Prefecture Kiso County Kamimatsu Town sleeping sensation
    This government-designated scenic spot is located along the Nakasendo route between Agematsu and Suhara. It contains rare terrain formations such as cubic joints and potholes. The strong current of the Kiso River has carved several unique rock formations, and the sight of its enchanting emerald hue is one worth beholding. This place appears in the legend of Urashima Taro as well, and it is said the name is taken from the scene when Urashima Taro returned from the dragon palace and opened the treasure casket.

    The Atera River is a distributary of the Kiso River. The area from the water source to where it meets the Kiso River is the “Atera Gorge.” Due to the beautiful color of the clear stream sparkling emerald green, it is also called “Atera Blue.” It is especially recommended in the autumn season for the colors of the leaves.

    Nagano Saku-shi Uchiyama
    Located about 10 minutes by bus from Nakagome Station or about 20 minutes by car from the Saku Minami IC, this valley near Route 254 is a place where visitors can enjoy the magnificent nature with many strange and mysterious rocks such as Hime-Iwa, Napoleon-Iwa, Byobu-Iwa, and Candle-Iwa. The area is also a great place to enjoy the changing scenery of the four seasons, with peach blossoms in early May and cosmos in mid-September.

    奇岩の景勝地として知られていますが、駐車場や中心地がありません。 まあ、山の紅葉と岩肌なのでどこからでも見えるのですが、観光を楽しむとか散策をたのしむとかができるとよいかな。

    Sanseiro is a gorge located about a 20-minute drive from the Omi Interchange or 25 minutes from Akashina Station. A village bus runs to the gorge from Akashina Station on weekdays. It has long had a reputation for scenic beauty, and it has been designated one of the best 100 Scenic Site in the Shinshu region. Azaleas and wisteria flourish there in the spring, and in the fall, colored leaves adorn the rocks, and they can be enjoyed along with the Saigawa River. Within the park are one of the famous 100 statues of the goddess Kannon and the bodhisattva Jizo along with Sanseiro Bridge. The Ikusaka Village Museum is also there, and its grounds can be used as a parking lot for sightseers. Boat tours down the river are available from July 1st to late September.

    Located 15 minutes by bus from Chikuhoku Station or a 15-minute drive from the Omi Interchange, Sashikiri Ravine was created by the Omigawa River flowing through layers of conglomerate and sandstone. It was designated a Prefectural Nature Park in 1965. Easy access has been one of its attractions, due to the New Sashikiri Road. It has been chosen as one of Nagano Prefecture's 100 best attractions. Not only does it feature rock formations, caves, and waterfalls but it is also a recommended site for viewing autumn leaves from late October to early November. The Dragon King Festival, based on the legend of the eight-headed dragon Orochi, is held on the first Sunday in August.

Kyogadake) to Yokogawa Valley, where you can see oak trees, stone monuments, and third-class waterfalls on the trek through the Yokogawa Valley primeval forest, certified as one of the ""New Japan Walking Trail 100 Mori no Michi. The ""Yokogawa Snake Stone"" along the way is designated as a national natural monument, and its name comes from the white vertical stripe pattern on the rock, which looks like a giant snake, created by metamorphic rock layers in the slate."

    This vast canyon runs alongside Kuzu Hot Spring and the Takase, Nanakura, and Omachi dams. It is known in Nagano Prefecture as a prominent fall foliage spot. The sight of the mountains covered in an array of vibrant hues is definitely worth it. There’s a walkway, so you can enjoy trekking as well.

    A gorge situated on the Kakizore River, a tributary of the Kiso River. Of the gorges along the Kisoji road (part of the Nakasendo), this one is renowned for being particularly gorgeous. Head upstream from the Koiji no Tsuribashi rope bridge and you can enjoy around eight kilometers of beautiful waterfalls, emerald green pools, and translucent stream. The gorge is also famous for its azaleas and rhododendrons in late May, and colorful foliage in the fall.

    It is approximately 60-minutes by car from the Shiozawa-Ishiuchi Interchange or the Echigo-Kawaguchi Interchange. Akiyamago is the general name for a number of small villages settled by fleeing Heike soldiers around Nakatsugawa River, a tributary of the Shinano River. The valley area abundant with nature sits between Nagano and Niigata prefectures. There are many sights of note, author Suzuki Bokushi likened it to the garden of Eden it is so beautiful and said that the mountain villages would forever be etched in his memory. In early spring the wild growing dogtooth violets will drown the mountain villages in pink. View the autumn colors spreading throughout the valley from Maekurahashi Bridge, and the famous sightseeing location for the legendary giant serpent of Jabuchinotaki Waterfall in Oakasawa.
