    This restaurant serving up local cuisine in the hot spring town of Shirahone in Nagano Prefecture’s Matsumoto City is also a day trip hot spring facility. Inside the dignified building that really conveys its history guests can enjoy a very Japanese space with tatami seating and irori (sunken hearth). Their famous product is Yu-no-Hanazen offering a set of items such as okayu (thin rice porridge) cooked with the hot spring water as well as sweetened boiled rainbow trout. The soba is also popular for its local taste and there are various soba dishes on the menu such as Tagoto Soba and Toji Soba. The rotemburo open-air bath that draws 100% of its warm water from the source is a great place to relax and enjoy a bath while taking in a view of magnificent nature.

They also have a complete selection of local sake and wine that pairs well with the food.     This building, which was a residence owned by a local influencer offered as lodgings for government officials and used as an inn for the common people in the Edo period, has a history of famed writers staying in its quarters. It is currently a restaurant where customers can savour local cuisine in an elegant space where they can feel its history. It also has a café menu that includes gohei-mochi (sweet rice cake skewers), oshiruko (mochi rice cakes in sweet red bean soup), matcha green tea and amazake (sweet fermented rice drink). It is seven minutes on foot from JR Narai Station.

    This is a long-established restaurant (1928) said to be the creator of the famed Komagane cutlet bowl with sauce. This consists of freshly-fried, tender and juicy katsu made with thick, quality pork loin dipped in the sauce made with a secret recipe that has been passed down since the restaurant opened then placed on top of rice topped with thinly sliced cabbage. It is a superb dish with a moreish rich sauce and a temperature difference between the piping hot katsu and the cool cabbage.
