The café’s Victorian-style building is surrounded by trees, and its charming appearance blends in perfectly with Karuizawa’s holiday home area. The café’s tea, served with the pot, and homemade scones are highly reviewed; the curried pilaf, a favorite of Uchida Yasuo, is delicious. Pets are allowed in the terrace and sunroom seating areas. The “Forest where Fairies Live ” beyond the café has trails visitors can enjoy walking.

    Located in Obuse Town, Kamitakai County, Nagano Prefecture is this cafe housed in a refurbished warehouse next to the long-standing chestnut confectionery shop, Obusedo. The small interior is a simple space based on white and wood. The cafe serves only drinks and its popular Mont Blanc cake filled with nut ice-cream and custard cream topped with plenty of Japanese chestnut paste. Tea and coffee brands are specially selected to suit the taste of the Mont Blanc cake.

    This cafe sitting opposite Muro Saisei Kinenkan Museum in Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County, Nagano Prefecture, is housed within the villa used by the granddaughter of former Prime Minister of Japan, Matsukata Masayoshi, and the writer, Yoko Mori. The building is a registered tangible cultural property of Japan. You can still find some furniture of the olden times here making for a nostalgic atmosphere, and in the summer time visitors can enjoy seating outside on the open terrace. In addition to the lunch menu of pasta and soup, their morning sets with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and sausages, etc. are also popular.

    大正時代くらいからの建物らしくコーヒーとケーキなどを食べました。別荘の雰囲気が出ていていい雰囲気です。妻はとても喜んでいました。庭にリスもいました。

    The well established Akaneya Coffee Shop was founded in Kobe and opened in Karuizawa in 1970. The elegantly charming coffee shop has a large range of beautiful coffee cups. Their blend coffee and today’s special are made with fresh coffee beans roasted over a charcoal fire. It’s a perfect place to enjoy their meticulously made coffee. As well as coffee they also serve tea and juice. Popular dishes on the food menu include cheesecake and chocolate cake served with a drink, and their curry rice is pretty good too.

The restaurant prides itself on its seasoning without the use of any chemical additives. For those who are not so fond of venison there are other dishes on the menu. The restaurant is located in Nakayama Highland, and from the windows you can see the Northern Alps.

    Usagidaira Terrace is the restaurant at the Usagidaira Station on the Happo gondola lift. Views of the Togakushi Mountains, Mt. Asama, Utsukushigahara and the Yatsugatake Mountains can be seen from the restaurant at a height of 1,400 meters. The restaurant uses food from Shinshu in its dishes. Popular dishes include Usagidaira egg chicken rice, and yamanosachi pasta made with lots of wild vegetable plants. The restaurant’s sanzoku ramen topped with the well-known Nagano favorite, sanzoku-yaki (large fried chicken), is simple and tasty and warms the body. For dessert, the Happo brown sugar pudding is very popular.

While there are some light meals and drinks, their pride and joy would be the fragrant coffee made with delicious water. You can even stay over—limited to two couples per day—if you make a reservation.

    From the cafe on the first floor of the hotel you can see Kappa Bridge, a sightseeing focal point in Kamikochi. In the relaxed atmosphere of the cafe you’ll find Matsumoto mingei furniture. The recommended cake on the menu is the rare cheesecake. Its smooth melt-in-the-mouth texture is enhanced with a distinctive blueberry sauce. Other cakes include seasonal cakes with selected fruit such as the luxury tart with lots of fruit. Their Shinshu apple crème brûlée, made in limited quantities, can only be tasted here.

    チーズケーキが思ったよりも大きくとても美味しかった。ロケーションも最高でした。アップルパイが売り切れで残念でしたが、次回はぜひ食べたいです。

    This cake shop is located a brief walk from Karuizawa Station. The cakes are made with choice ingredients and have many local fans. The café offers cake, black tea, and light meals. The “afternoon tea set” with any two cakes, a sandwich, scone and drink is popular.

    もともと紅茶の専門店ですが、紅茶との組み合わせで食べられるパンの味がかなり良い感じで、ベーコンエッグのサンドイッチと組み合わせたり、フレンチトーストと合わせたりしますが、どちらも紅茶の味を引き立てる感じがして、とても良いです。ただ、フレンチトーストは乗っているクリームの品質がいいせいか価格もかなり高めで1260円もするので、ちょっと予算は多めに必要な感じのお店です。

    This restaurant is inside the Shiga Kogen Maruike Hotel, which opened in 1930 in Maruike, Yamanouchi Town. In addition to its “sauce katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl),” which boasts a 40-year history, they also offer carefully prepared Nel drip coffee in the coffee corner along with handmade cheesecake and daily cake specials.

    A tiny restaurant giving a lovely rest from the slopes... Great for a quick and delicious bite before heading back out; just grab a tray, order, pay and collect. Delicious katsu curry and katsu don...

    This cafe offers ten or so varieties of cakes, including authentic teas from around the world and Mont Blanc cake made with walnuts from Obuse. There are always about 20 types of tea available, and their delicious flavor has even earned the shop the recognition of the Japan Tea Association. The exterior looks like a European-style house, and the interior contains antique Western furniture, allowing you to spend a pleasant, relaxing time. It’s about a seven-minute walk from Obuse Station on the Nagano Line.

    There are basically two parts of this place. A take out window in the front and a tea room in the back. I was there late afternoon on a Sunday in the off-season and it was packed! So I can imaging...

    Coffee Kageki has a subdued ambience with a British Tudor-style interior. Enjoy handmade cakes with Karuizawa fruits and fresh vegetables and drip coffee brewed with select beans. Even the cups are carefully selected. The light shines gently through the stained glass windows to provide the perfect relaxing atmosphere.

    ちょっとお茶〜というよりは「喫茶!」といったかんじの喫茶店です。お茶そのものもですが、それよりも内装やカップ、調度品を楽しむといった向きが強いです。たまにはこういうレトロ〜な喫茶もいいですね。

    This hotel was formerly Shimizuya, one of the bath houses of the latter part of the Edo period.
