It is used not only by tourists to Mt. Komagatake but also many local residents."

    This souvenir shop is located in Nagano City. Situated on the shopping street of Zenkoji Temple, you can have a taste of handmade soba buckwheat noodles made using local flour from Togakushi. In addition, they also sell souvenirs such as oyaki (flat baked bun with red bean paste or vegetable filling), soba mochi rice cakes using soba, and eight-spice powder. Up to 13 large buses can park in the parking lot, allowing use by large groups.

    A museum located in Azumino City which introduces the history of the cultivation of the Japanese oak silkmoth. Thread made using the cocoons of the moths is produced similar to that of regular silk, but the resulting fabric is lighter and softer, and possesses a distinctive color and luster. Inside, visitors can learn about the history of Japanese oak silkmoths and their ecology. In the adjoining studio, visitors can watch as textiles are woven from the moths' cocoons. The museum's shop sells Japanese oak silkmoth silks and accessories. In addition, visitors can also see actual Japanese oak silkmoths being raised in an open breeding house on the grounds.

    We visited Azumino during the off season of March. The town bus was not running during our visit. We took a taxi to the Azumino Tensan Center. The taxi was about $23.00 US from the Hotaka station...

    A long-established lacquerware store founded in 1907, dealing mainly in Kiso lacquerware and also in various regional lacquerware such as Yamanaka, Aizu, and Echizen lacquerware. The shop displays lacquerware which can be used daily such as bowls, trays, dishes, etc. The sign marked with a lion and peony flowers is a landmark.

    松本城下の御おかげを残す中町通りにそって今なお現役で営業している漆器の専門店です。看板からして牡丹と獅子という粋なデザインで、ついつい立ち寄ってしまいます。売れている商品は正真正銘の漆細工の食器がメインなのでお手段は高価ですが、一見の価値はあります。

    The owner was attracted to the lacquerware made nearby and opened this shop after studying at Kiso Lacquer Institute. His original works and local artists’ works are displayed and available for sale. Inside you will find utensils, clothing, accessories, wild vine baskets and more. Among the recommended items would be the “sugisara”—born from its use of Natural Monument Yakushima cedars, which were felled by the typhoon. The lacquerware includes many everyday easy-to-use pieces.

    冬だったので他のお店は閉まっていて、口コミで評判の良いこちらに立ち寄りました。奈良井宿の事を色々を教えて頂いたり楽しい時間を過ごせます。 置いてある物もセレクトされていて星野リゾートで使われていると言うオリジナルの和菓子用切りを茶道をたしなんでいる方にお土産に購入しました。 時間があればゆっくり自分用の物も見たかった。

    A 10-minute walk from Narai Station on the JR Chuo Main Line. This shop, located in Shiojiri City, specializes in wooden containers and magemono circular boxes. Magemono are made across the country, with each region's bearing a unique design; the shop's magemono have sides made with Kiso hinoki cypress and covers made with Kiso sawara cypress. All of the shop's boxes and containers are handmade, and, as they are used over the years, the lacquer on areas which are frequently touched will gradually grow brighter and change color. Sure to make a delightful souvenir or gift, Kiso magemono boxes are not only beautiful, they're practical as well - when used as a bento box, they keep rice in its optimum state, preserving the flavor and ensuring it tastes delicious even when cold.

    This tourist facility is on Prefectural Route 66 in Okuyamada, Takayama Village, Kamitakai County. It has a sales corner for local products, a footbath, a tea room that serves light fare, an event plaza, an exhibition space, and more. The second floor has a Japanese-style room that you can use for a rest after a visit to Oyu, the adjacent hot spring facility. A tourist office provides area information as well as help with accommodation, making it a great starting point for exploring Takayama Village.

    信州高山温泉郷の、山田温泉大湯の向かいにある、観光案内所。外に足湯があり、中は観光案内所があり、地域のものを販売しています。このあたりは、たくさんの温泉地があり、温泉めぐりが楽しめるところですが、情報発信や湯巡り手形のようなものもなく、訪問しずらいところです。こちらの場所がそういう役割を担っていただけることを期待したいです。

    観光バスがたくさん停まる、木地師の里の中でも大きなお店です。昔ながらのお盆から、最近のアイデア系のものまでいろいろ並んでいました。面白いと思うのは同じ型でも使っている木が違うものが並べられているので、好きな木目や色が選べることです。これは産地ならでは、広いお店ならではだと思いました。奥には体験工房がありました。

    A Japanese diner and shop adjoining the Naebaso guesthouse close to the entrance to the climbing trail for Mt. Naeba in Akiyamago. The establishment takes great pride in its kamameshi rice dishes and charcoal grilled char, and dishes such as the char and mountain vegetable kamameshi rice are made with edible wild plants from Akiyamago. Note that the adjoining Akiyama Woodworking Producer's Association woodwork craft gallery and shop is currently closed. The store on the third floor, however, makes crimson glory vine bags and visitors can also view single board tables, braziers, and other merchandise on display (advanced reservation by phone is required).

    This long-standing miso shop was established in 1832 and is located a five-minute walk from Matsumoto Castle. Primarily making and selling miso, the shop notably continues to make its miso according to an old-fashioned, traditional method called miso-dama-zukuri. The shop only uses domestic ingredients to craft its products. Particularly recommended is the Hourei miso, made using the miso-dama-zukuri method. Other varieties include the Shinshu miso-style Tenjo and Tanrei misos, and customers can choose the miso or misos they like the best. Originally a koji malted rice maker, the shop also sells an abundant variety of koji pickles made with ingredients from Matsumoto such as pickled coleseed greens and uri melon kasuzuke sake lee pickles.

The shop is filled with cute items ready to adorn your home or that of a loved one, including expressive washi paper masks crafted by artisans from numerous regions, as well as paper dolls, yuzen-dyed doll clothing, letter sets, and memo pads. The shop's original Yukinko paper dolls, only sold here, are also popular. One of the great things about washi paper is its soft, warm texture, and visitors to this shop will find the atmosphere soothing.

The shop carries merchandise bearing the Sanada clan's Rokumonsen family crest, popular Ueda confections, Japanese pickles, and local liquors. The shop's original Sanada Saemonnosuke Nobushige is a tokubetsu junmai nama genshu undiluted, refined sake crafted with Miyamanishiki sake rice grown in Nagao Prefecture and Kokuyo no Mizu spring water. This sake is sold by volume from a two meter tall, 1.2 meter in diameter on-site tank. The shop also carries an abundant selection of Nagano's famous oyaki buns and soba noodles.

    A handmade Japanese washi paper studio whose origins are believed to date back to 1042 when a shrine servant used wild mulberry, a raw ingredient used in washi, to make paper for a festival on the request of Nishina Shinmeigu Shrine. Visitors can tour the actual shop floor where the studio makes its wash and also try hand-sieving washi paper themselves. The washi papermaking activity requires an advance reservation, so be sure to contact the studio in advance.

The Western-style furniture made with wood from the tough and tenacious Japanese cherry birch is very durable and the longer it is used the more its appeal increases. In addition to displaying and selling nearly 400 pieces of furniture including chairs, tables, and desks on a regular basis, they also carry many folk items from around the world that are sure to add color to everyday life.
