The Suwa city museum of ART is in a space converted from what used to be a “Memorial Hall” for Katakura Industries, which was built in 1943. It is Nagano Prefecture’s first public art museum. The museum opened in 1956 and is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property. It has a collection of nearly 1,400 items mainly focused on modern art, including works by artists both local and celebrated nationwide. It’s about a seven-minute walk from the west exit of JR Kami-Suwa Station.

温泉施設の片倉館と併設されており、美術館、温泉、諏訪湖畔と楽しむことができます。近くには間欠泉などもあるのでこの付近を散策するにはお勧めの場所です。

"An art museum built to commemorate the Nagano Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It features bottles and vases made in the ancient Roman Empire from iridescent glass. You can spot the adjacent conical restaurant from far away, making it a good landmark. They serve meals and tea. The elliptical museum, which has a theme of ""Coexisting with Nature,"" was designed by world-renowned architect Kurokawa Kisho. Exhibitions include works by Kodama Katei , who was Yamanouchi-machi native and a Nanga painter, and Yoshimoto Yumiko, a contemporary glass artist."

This is a museum of contemporary Japanese paintings and glass works on the shore of Lake Suwa. The museum displays glass works by Emil Galle, the master of French decorative art, and René Lalique, a representative artist of both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras and others. The glass works exhibited are highly valued and regarded as one of the best glass collections in the world. There is also a coffee shop overlooking Lake Suwa.

This is an art museum within Akamatsu Forest, Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture, displaying mainly the original pictures from contemporary picture books from Japan and abroad. They collect original pictures from works such as Bernadette Watts’ The Little Match Girl and Delia Cancela’s “Alice in Wonderland,” and several times a year hold planned exhibits. They give particular attention to the works of Kenji Miyazawa. There are a number of facilities including library with around 8,000 picture books, a museum shop, and cafe where one can enjoy handmade cake and lunch. Also popular as a wedding venue, cottage accommodation is available too.

The Koumi-machi Kougen Museum of Art opened in 1997 and primarily showcases collections of works from the late Kesao Kuribayashi, a painter and former member of the “Kokugakai” society as well as a Koumi-machi local, and the late Tatsuzo Shimaoka, a potter who was a designated a Living National Treasure. Located at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, this art museum is at harmony with the surrounding environment and is famous for its unique exhibits on local artists, modern art, architecture, design, and more. It’s about one hour by car from the Sutama Interchange on the Chuo Expressway.

八峰の湯のすぐ隣にある美術館。八峰の湯と町営バス停も一緒。有名な建築家がデザインしたようで、外観がとてもモダンで、レストランもあるようなので、八峰の湯とセットで周りたかったが、今回はバスの時間と合わず美術館は断念。どちらもゆっくりしたければ、午前中から行くか、車で行くしかないようだった。

This municipal art museum is situated on Prefectural Route 484 in Hara Village, Suwa County, Nagano Prefecture. The museum's standing exhibition consists of works by Hara Village-born sculptor Takashi Shimizu, as well as calligraphy by the similarly Hara Village-born calligrapher Kakusen Tsugane, and Jomon period pottery and stone implements excavated from archeological sites in the village. The museum also holds a variety of special exhibitions throughout the year. Walk the walking path around the museum and you can enjoy an outdoor sculpture exhibit and also come in contact with the natural beauty found at the foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains.

Nagano Saku-shi Sarukubo 35-5 Komaba Park

"An art museum located in Komaba Park near central Saku City. Their permanent exhibition features one of Japan's most famous painters, Hirayama Ikuo, and his masterpiece called ""Bukkyo Denrai."" Planned exhibits are also sometimes held. Since opening in 1983 the museum has received many donations from collectors and artists. This museum is in Chuocho, Okaya City, Nagano Prefecture. It exhibits the work of various picture book authors, with a focus on Okaya native Takeo Takei. An outdoor sculpture museum located on the Utsukushigahara Highlands in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture which displays some 350 modern art sculptures on a meadow 2,000 meters above sea level. Dotted with pieces by such famed domestic and international artists as César Baldaccini, Alexander Liberman, Izumi Ando, and Masuo Ikeda, the museum’s meadow is truly a stunning sight. The museum is also surrounded by magnificent mountains, and lovely mountain plants bloom from spring to fall. The museum is open from late April to mid-November.

An art museum which displays pieces by Ina City-affiliated artists Fusetsu Nakamura, Takuji Nakamura, and Ikuo Hirayama located on the south side of Takato Castle Site Park. The museum's Harada Collection, assembled by Masao Harada over a 50 year period, spans 668 pieces. In addition to art exhibits, the museum also holds concerts and art classes for children in order to cultivate the next generation of artists. A grass lawn in front of the museum is also used to hold outdoor concerts. The museum's lobby has floor-to-ceiling windows from which visitors can enjoy a view of the museum's garden, cherry trees and Takato Lake. The museum cafe also commands a view of the Central and Southern Japan Alps.

This art museum is located within “Karuizawa Taliesin,” a leisure facility located on the lakeside of Lake Shiozawa in Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County, Nagano Prefecture. It is on the second floor of the Western-styled Karuizawa Post Office, built in 1911. It contains and displays 200 watercolor paintings of Kouko Fukazawa, a Western-style painter who loved Karuizawa and painted many plateau flowers. You can also see displays with seasonal themes or recreated ateliers. The first floor is an Italian restaurant with good pasta.

An art museum opened in 1991 after the donation of woodblock prints by Suzaka printmaker Asaji Kobayashi and works and self-published magazines produced as part of the Sosaku-hanga art movement collected by Kobayashi in his interactions with other print artists from across Japan. An art museum located near the top of Mt. Iizuna identifiable by its hexagonal steeple. The museum exhibits key pieces from the more than 50 year long career of Nihonga Japanese painter Eisetsu Shiratori, who was born in Komoro City and served as a member of the Japan Art Academy. The museum also displays works by Eisetsu's mentor Shinsui Ito, plus many works by locally-born artists and painters connected to the Komoro Gijuku school. Each year in summer, the museum holds an exhibition of work by insect photographer Kazuo Unno and, in winter, the museum hosts the Japan Art Direction Exhibition, which is only held at three locations nationwide.

Nagano Minamisaku-gun Sakuho Machi Hozumi 1429-1

An art museum which displays drawings by Togyu Okumura, an artist who stood at the top of the Japanese painting world. The entirety of the museum's collection was donated by Okumura; encompassing 207 sketches and calligraphy works including those created by the artist, the content of the museum's exhibit is changed three times a year. Okumura was active throughout his life, paining until the age of 101, and here visitors can come in contact with the artist's work in its rawest form.

佐久穂町出身かと思ったら、戦時中疎開されていたそうです。素描画がたくさん展示されています。二階のシャンデリアや格天井、柱時計のカチカチいう音が、とても素敵でした。お庭も歩けます。
