Shopping Spots in Around Lake Yamanaka Area

  • Oshino Hakkai Ikemoto Shop

    Yamanashi Minamitsuru-gun Oshinomura Shibokusa 354
This souvenir shop is located about a ten-minute drive from Yamanakako Interchange and about a 20-minute drive from Kawaguchiko Interchange. It is immediately next to both the Oshino Hakkai and Oshino Hakkai Iriguchi bus stops. The shop is convenient for people visiting Mt. Fuji, Oshino Hakkai, and other tourist destinations in the area. Their specialty is kusa mochi, which are made and grilled right at the shop. These extremely popular mugwort-flavored rice cakes are made with underground water from Mt. Fuji and flavored with two varieties domestic mugwort. In the spring the shop also sells sakura mochi (rice cake with bean paste wrapped in a pickled cherry leaf), a seasonal exclusive. We also recommend their soft-serve ice cream, which comes in flavors including white peach and Hakkai Ramune. Lavender flavor is also available during certain parts of the year. The shop also offers sakes not available anywhere else.

This quiet and relaxed cafe and sundries shop just for adults on the shore of Lake Yamanaka lies off the beaten path. It offers items such as dried flowers and antique goods, as well as a selection of cakes which are also available as takeout. Children under the age of 10 years old are not welcome here.

They do not allow kids under 10, but they also do not allow takeaway of the apple pies. That’s ridiculous! So for those have kids under 10, NO Need to come if you want to try the apple pie!

  • Koshu Cellar Rinka Fujitaya Yamanaka Shop
    Shopping
    Yamanashi Minamitsuru-gun Yamanakakomura Yamanaka 99
This venerable wine shop is located along National Route 138 near the northwest shore of Lake Yamanaka a short distance south of the carp statue. Established in 1927, it carries more than 200 varieties of Koshu wines, one of the biggest selections in the prefecture. The shop also carries many imported wines. The sight of more than 1,800 bottles that line its shelves is simply stunning. The high-quality wines it offers, which are carefully selected by its sommelier owner, include winners of the Japan Wine Competition. There are also nouveau wines with lower alcohol content as well as limited-issue seasonal wines.
  • Fujiyama Bazaar Forest Station Asahigaoka Shop

Just an eight-minute drive from Yamanakako Interchange. The shop is inside the Forest Station Asahigaoka building located just in front of the Asahigaoka Bus Terminal. They sell special goods and sweets from around the Mt. Fuji area as souvenirs as well as special selected goods including snacks and sundries. When in the proper season they'll have corn on the cob as well as other vegetables grown by local farmers available for purchase. On the second floor they have KABA cafe offering original breakfasts as well as udon noodle soup and Hoto, a local noodle specialty dish.

This cafe restaurant is located in an area dotted with lodging facilities on the southeastern shore of Lake Yamanaka. It is notable for cuisine that capitalizes on the flavor of the ingredients without the use of artificial seasonings. Its most popular dish is the tongue stew, which is stewed for two weeks straight. Other offerings include their hamburger steak and cheese sausage, which has been made the same way since the restaurant was established, as well as their ham and sausage assortments. Guests can bring their pets with them to the restaurant's veranda. The restaurant also offers sausage-making classes and sells some of its sausages. Another of the restaurant's appeals is its wonderful seasonal scenery including expansive snowy landscapes in the winter.
  • New York Stick Factory Outlet

    Yamanashi Minamitsuru-gun Oshinomura Uchino 190
This cake shop is located a short distance east from the village office of Oshino Village along Prefectural Route 717. As the name suggests, it is an outlet that sells the leftover end pieces of cakes and off-standard items at discounted prices. Although the shop is liable to sell out as its inventory is limited to what is available that day, it carries a wide variety of items ranging from cakes to baked sweets. Being a factory outlet, the company's regular stick cakes, cookies, and other products are also available at reduced prices. Each item is offered at a flat price regardless of the flavor. We recommend their black cheesecakes made with food-grade bamboo charcoal for people who do not like sweets.

Yamanashi Areas

Yamanashi prefecture is the proud home of one of Japan’s most celebrated icons: Mount Fuji. Although the mountain straddles both Yamanashi and Shizuoka, the most breathtaking views of Fuji-san can be seen from the Fuji Five Lakes north of the mountain in Yamanashi prefecture. The plethora of outdoor activities in and around the lakes all have the benefit of the country’s highest mountain as their backdrop, and we can assure you that it is an unforgettable sight.
