High Priest Nichiren entered Kuonji Temple at Mt. Minobu where he remained for his entire life teaching his disciples. This sacred place where Nichiren devoted his life to reciting the Lotus Sutra draws many worshipers as the head temple of the Nichiren sect. Many annual events are also held here. The Setsubun Ritual held in February attracts tens of thousands of people. In the grounds of the temple are drooping trees said to be 400 years old. The place is well known as a cherry blossom viewing spot with beautiful pale pink flowers showing their full glory during the spring.

Minobu Town is a place with many cultural heritage sites, but none have a bigger historical significance than the Yu-no-oku gold mine ruins. This museum exhibits a collection of unearthed articles, materials related to the gold mine, historical documents on gold mining, and more. Visitors can enjoy learning about the world of gold mining during Japan's middle ages and Warring States period through the museum's video theater, dioramas, exhibit halls, hands-on gold panning activity, and more.

Tells a version of the history of gold mining in Japan, and its production methods from laborious hand-crushing onwards. Very little English-language signage, but the displays were still interesting...

    Yamanashi Minamikoma-gun Minobucho Minobu 3510
"This temple is located about 30 minutes from Rokugo Interchange on the Chubu-Odan Expressway via National Route 52. It is a sub-temple of Kuonji Temple established by Niccho, the Buddhist priest responsible for the area's religious revival. Niccho is said to have overcome blindness through the power of his faith. Based on his prayer to protect and heal believers suffering from eye diseases, the temple has become known as a place to pray for cures for eye diseases and for success in academics. The temple is famous for its shojin kaiseki (multi-course vegetarian Buddhist meals) featuring yuba (tofu skins), a local specialty of Minobu Town. Meals can be enjoyed even if you are not staying overnight. Eating lunch at the temple called ""Ote-lunch"" has become a popular attraction. Overnight guests at the temple can enjoy taking a wine bath while viewing the Japanese garden."

"This history museum collects and exhibits artifacts including Buddhist images carved by the Edo period monk Mokujiki as well as ancient documents. Mokujiki traveled all over Japan and left behind more than 1,000 Buddhist statues across the country during his lifetime. His works have a creative style that does not conform to traditional styles of Buddhist carving. Called ""mishobutsu"" (smiling Buddhas) for the faint smiles on the mouths of many of their mouths, his Buddhist images were widely worshipped by the common folk. The nearby birthplace of Mokujiki is open to the public as Mokujiki Memorial Hall."

Yamanashi prefecture is the proud home of one of Japan’s most celebrated icons: Mount Fuji. Although the mountain straddles both Yamanashi and Shizuoka, the most breathtaking views of Fuji-san can be seen from the Fuji Five Lakes north of the mountain in Yamanashi prefecture. The plethora of outdoor activities in and around the lakes all have the benefit of the country’s highest mountain as their backdrop, and we can assure you that it is an unforgettable sight.
