    Yamanashi Minamikoma-gun Hayakawacho Akasawa
    This valley community is located about 60 minutes from Kofu-minami Interchange or Kawaguchiko Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. It once prospered as a post station on the Minobu Okan, a road that connects Kuonji Temple on Mt. Minobu, the head temple of the Nichiren Shu order of Nichiren Buddhism, to Mt. Shichimen, one of its sacred sites. Until the current roads were built in the late 1950s, the Minobu Okan was the only road to Mt. Shichimen, so the post town was patronized by many temple visitors. It is said that 1000 people a day stayed in the town's lodges during its peak between the Meiji period and the early Showa period. The buildings and cobbled streets look just as they did during centuries ago during the Edo period. This townscape has been designated as a Preservation District for Groups of Important Historic Buildings.

  • Hoshino Resorts Risonare Yatsugatake “Piment Street”

    This boulevard is located inside the Hoshino Resort Risonare Yatsugatake where a variety of activities including a spa, and a pool are available for the guest’s enjoyment, and is only a five- minute drive from the Kobuchizawa Interchange. It is also accessible by a shuttle bus that runs between the Kobuchizawa Station and the resort. This charming cobblestone boulevard is one of the main attractions of the resort, and is totally transformed into a world of enchantment during Halloween and Christmas with many events for visitors. There are so many different types of shops, cafes, and sundry boutiques lining the boulevard that time flies while just browsing the stores.

  • Lake Shoji Nature Watching Trail

    Yamanashi Minamitsuru-gun Fujikawaguchikomachi Shoji
    A nature trail encircling Lake Shoji which takes around 45 minutes to walk. From the lake's sandy north shore to the lava flows of Aokigahara at its south shore, those walking the trail can take in the natural scenery and catch sight of animals living around the lake. A sign at the entrance to the trail provides information on the plant life which grows here and how big it gets as well as on small animals living in the area. The sign even provides detailed information on how the eruptions of Mt. Fuji influenced the area and the composition of the lava rock here.
  • Gekkoji Dori Street

    A street just a short walk east of Gekkoji Station. Paper lanterns hang from above along the Gekkoji Daimon Shopping Arcade and the appearance of the shops lining the street will take you back to the Showa-period (1926-1989). The area flourished in the textile industry during the early Showa-period to the 1960s and many shops are still open to this day. Part of the appeal is the sense of nostalgia you'll feel as you wander the variety of shops. The streetlights have an extreme retro design and some buildings have almost fallen into a state of disrepair. This well known spot has also been used for location shooting in movies.

  • Seisen-ryo Nature Hiking Trails

    A series of nature trails around the Seisen-ryo lodging facility, located just a five-minute drive from JR Kiyosato Station. There are nine trails winding through the nature rich Yatsugatake mountain region. Trails range from 30-minute jaunts to half day treks and you can pick a course that fits your stamina levels, from a peaceful forest therapy walk, to nature observation, trekking, or bird watching. From the look-out terraces on the spacious meadows on the trails you can look out at Mt. Fuji or the Chichibu Mountain Range including Mt. Kinpu. You can also see beautiful examples of Rhododendron transiens, a natural memorial.

Yamanashi prefecture is the proud home of one of Japan’s most celebrated icons: Mount Fuji. Although the mountain straddles both Yamanashi and Shizuoka, the most breathtaking views of Fuji-san can be seen from the Fuji Five Lakes north of the mountain in Yamanashi prefecture.
