    Location of the scenic spots from “Narrow Road to the Interior”, Kehi-jingu Shrine is a shrine of Echizen serving the Hokuriku Road and is located in Tsuruga City in Fukui Prefecture. The primary god worshipped there is Izasawake-no-mikoto, who oversees food, and has long been worshipped as a god for protecting all of life (food, shelter, clothing), particularly in seafaring, and fishing. There are many sites to see, such as the large torii gate (Important Cultural Property), the “old man” Noh masks, Sarutahiko masks (both Cultural Properties) and the eucalyptus trees (Natural Monuments for Tsuruga City). Approximately 10 minutes via Tsuruga Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway.

    This park is popular for its amazing views from the eastern observation deck of the Mikata-goko Lakes, which were designated as a Ramsar Site in 2005. The park’s rose garden, which has more than 600 roses of 110 varieties, is a must-see. The best viewing periods are May 20 to June 20 in spring and October 20 to November 20 in the fall.

The open hours for shops and restaurants for March to November are different than for December to February, so please check it in advance.

    Located in Wakaba Town, Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture, this is the largest seafood market selling products from the Sea of Japan, and is host to 70 establishments like seafood shops and restaurants. Among the market stalls you’ll hear the energetic voices of the market vendors trying to sell their wares and you’ll see a wide variety of seafood delicacies on all of the stalls trucked in directly from Tsuruga Port such as fresh seafood, processed foods, and the local specialty, kombu seaweed. The seafood rice bowls, popular with tourists, are topped with a whole variety of different foods and all at a good price. Each bowl comes packed with a huge amount of seafood such as tuna, sea bream, shrimp, salmon roe and salmon, etc. The market officially opens at 10 a.m. but apart from the restaurants most stalls start trading from 8:30 a.m. onwards.

    This history museum is located a short bus ride from Mihama Station on the JR Obama Line towards Tsuruga before a five-minute walk from the Sagakiguchi bus stop in Mikata County, Fukui Prefecture. The museum, which opened in 2009, features exhibits about the ruins of Kuniyoshi Castle, a mountain castle from Japan's warring states period, as well as about the historical townscape of Sagaki, its castle town. In the museum the relocated main building and its reception room of the old Tanabe Handai family residence are set up to be displayed. The museum holds a variety of seasonal exhibitions in its entrance hall. Other exhibits include videos about the history of Kuniyoshi Castle and the town as well as a variety of historical materials and artifacts.

    With roughly 17,000 red and black pine trees, Kehi no Matsubara (a pine covered area, near the seashore) is a famous location and one of Japan’s Top 3 Pine Forests, along with Miho no Matsubara and Niji no Matsubara. It is about 400,000 squre meters and 1.5 kilometers in length, and provide strong contrasts with the white sand and blue-green pines.
