    The only spot along the Sea of Japan famous for azaleas, Nishiyama Park is known for its roughly 50,000 azaleas, and is invigorated with many visitors who come during the “Tsutsuji Festival” held early May each year. There are other events too, like the “Momiji Festival” in fall and the “Sabae Snow Festival” in winter.

    Fukui Nyu-gun Echizencho Asahi 17-3-1
    A botanical garden located along National Route 417 in Asahi, Echizen Town, Nyu County. In a site covering 25 ha you can see over 3,000 types of naturally growing plants. In the main building they have exhibits displaying the evolutionary history of plants as well as a mini greenhouse with a collection of succulent plants. They also have hands-on classes such as creating handicrafts using plants.

    広大な植物園で、四季折々の草花も楽しめる。 土日はクラフトのイベントもあるようです。 しかし、植物園内のトイレの清掃が行き届いていなかったり、老朽化しており、厳しいです。 (建物内トイレはきれいです。ただし和式) 小さい子連れにはオススメしません。

  • Kitanosho Castle Ruins Shibata Park

    A park on the site of the former Kitanosho Castle. In 1575 Shibata Katsuie was given control of the Echizen area by Oda Nobunaga and he had Kitanosho castle on the plains constructed. It was a magnificent castle with a nine-story tower and a large castle town surrounding it but fell just eight years later when attacked by the army of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In the park are bronze statues of Shibata Katsuie, his wife Oichi, and their three daughters. Some historical remains including Onigawara roof tiles and chains from a pontoon bridge still remain.

    A park located along Prefectural Route 235 in Obamakatori, Obama City. An observation platform has been constructed facing Obama Bay and gives a great view over the city, Uchitomi Peninsula, and Oshima Peninsula. In spring the nearly 150 cherry trees planted in the park come into blossom and a special Sakura Cherry Blossom Festival is held with evening illuminations of the trees.

    A campsite in Wada, Takahama Town, Ohi County. The seaside campsite is attached to Wakasa Wada Beach and is equipped with divided lots, permanent tents, and an all-weather barbeque area. Along with overnight camping you can also use the facilities for day-camping or just using the barbeque house (depending on season).

    Opened in 1976. Awara Lake Kitagata Iris Garden is one of the largest such gardens in Japan. For about one month beginning early in June, about 200,000 irises of 300 varieties bloom in profusion, creating a splendid visual delight that looks like a painting. Every year during the blooming season, the Hana Shobu Matsuri is held, visitors can enjoy local traditional performing arts, a market featuring famous local products, and boat excursions on the lake.

    This exhibition hall is located on the grounds of Kogyoji Temple in Fujimaki, Eiheiji Town, Yoshida County. It features a range of exhibits on topics including the history of Kogyoji Temple such as its major role in the missionary work of the Buddhist priest Rennyo in Yoshizaki, as well as on the folktales of Echizen Province (today the northern portion of Fukui Prefecture). Other exhibits include a collection of Buddhist statues from places including Bhutan and India, and other regions.

    This park is located on the former site of Takahama Castle, which was built during the Muromachi Period. It features a large grassy square where visitors can view the cherry blossoms in the spring. There is also a promenade leading to an observation deck from which visitors can enjoy views of Meikyodo Cave, a natural cave and one of Takahama Town's places of scenic beauty, as well as Yana no Kisho eight rare scenic beauty, Wakasa Bay, and beyond. The sunset seen from the ruins of Shiroyama Castle has also been selected as one of Japan Sunset Best 100. The beautiful sight of the sun setting over Mt. Aoba is a must-see. Fishing on the seashore is one of the many different ways to enjoy the park.

    A swimming beach in Koigawa, Obama. The beach is nearly 800-meters long. During beach season, there are courts set up for beach volleyball, and it's one of the grounds for the Fukui Shiawase Genki National Sports Festival. The beach is easy to access just 2 minutes from the Obama-nishi Interchange on the Maizuru Wakasa Expressway.

    A park located in Chigadaira, Echizen Town, Nyu Country, Fukui Prefecture. Visitors can view daffodils which bloom on the grounds from November through March. There's also a hall with a daffodil garden in the center of the park where you can see daffodils flowering year-round. Other highlights include the Cape Echizen Lighthouse and an observatory.

    A museum in Ozowara, Echizen, Nyu. In addition to the museum, which shows off the charms of Echizen pottery through their collection on display, they also have a tea room and garden on the premises. They also offer pottery classes where you can experience electric pottery wheels and hand throwing as well as ceramic painting.
  • Echizen Old Kiln Museum

    The museum was newly established in 2017 and is located on the grounds of the Echizen Pottery Village, introducing Echizen pottery from the Heian period to the modern age. The site also houses the former Mizuno Family Residence, a reconstructed old private house in Fukui, and two authentic tea rooms, Tenshindo and Tenshin'an.

The park offers a variety of attractions, including a large jungle gym and a rope slide made of logs and ropes.

    The Konsho Ototo Town is an all-weather barbeque facility where you can enjoy grab fish or hook char/Rainbow trout in the clear waters, where you can take in nature, that also lets you enjoy coal grilling fish that you have caught. You cannot bring in outside materials, but food and drinks for barbeque are available for purchase.

    "The ""Yuri no Sato"" park, home to150,000 lilies, is famous for its ""Yuri Lily Festa"" held every June, and is a popular spot visited by 90,000 people every year. Project mapping, as well as over 60,000 underwater lights and LED lights, are used to create a water and sound production and an atmosphere of fantasy within the park. This event is held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the evening. The park is great for families and includes an adventure playground and slides. There is also an area where visitors can enjoy a barbecue in the great outdoors (advance reservations are required)."

Northeast of Kyoto, the ancient Tojinbo Cliffs separate Fukui prefecture from the Sea of Japan in a stretch of land well worth exploring. Water sports and seaside delicacies are available in abundance as the spectacular rugged coastline flattens down into beaches to the west of the prefecture, while inland, Fukui is home to Zen Buddhist temples and historic ruins.
