A cafe located inside La Porte Suzu. Particularly recommended is the Himedora combo, produced by Nizami Coffee and Noto Mamehime, which comes with a dorayaki pancake sandwich made with Noto dainagon adzuki beans. The cafe also serves light meals; the Ishiru Chahan fried rice, made with ishiru (a squid-based sauce which is a local specialty product), is particularly popular.

A café located along the coast in Suzu, Ishikawa which offers dishes made with Agehama sea salt, a local specialty product, and drinks such as Shio Cider (a soda made with sea salt). Situated inside a remodeled abandoned home, the subdued colors of the café’s décor create a chic atmosphere. The Sea of Japan stretches away into the distance outside the café’s windows and here customers can enjoy a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The café’s fluffy pancakes, made with Shio Cider, are particularly popular. The beef stew, made with slow-stewed Noto beef, is also well-reviewed. The café also has a shop and gallery space.

Ishikawa Pref. Housugunnotochou Yanagida Thank you party 37-1
"A Japanese restaurant located in the Yanagida area on the Noto Peninsula. The only part of Noto not adjoining the sea, Yanagida developed a unique style of cuisine different from the surrounding region. The restaurant serves a variety of seasonal dishes made with edible wild plants, river fish, mushrooms, and pheasant. The ""Noto-don"" rice bowl, topped with rare Noto beef raised in the region, is particularly popular. The restaurant takes thin slices of A3 rank and higher Noto beef and sears it lightly with a flame, garnishing it with wasabi and chrysanthemum flowers served over rice."

"A dedicated soba noodle restaurant situated amidst the mountains of Noto. Operating out of an old fashioned Japanese home from Suzu relocated to this location, the restaurant has a distinctive atmosphere. The restaurant's noodles are made with rare Shinshu Togakushi buckwheat, while the broth is made with flying fish grilled at the restaurant over a charcoal fire. Here you can enjoy flavorful soba noodles made with love and care from beginning to end. The restaurant also actively incorporates local ingredients. The toppings of the restaurant's unique and renowned Noto-don rice bowl are served in a separate, heated bowl, allowing the customer to choose how long to cook them. One little-known yet popular menu item is the ""field cheese"" -smoked kata-dofu hard tofu."

"A Japanese restaurant standing along National Route 249 traveling from Wajima towards Suzu. From the restaurant's windows, you can see the Maura Coast and Tarumi falls, a famous ""reverse waterfall"" whose waters flow in reverse during the coldest part of winter. The restaurant's signature dish is its ""Noto Kaisen-don,"" a rice bowl topped with fresh seasonal and local Noto seafood. The rice bowl is topped with around 10 varieties of seasonal seafood, such as sea bream and flounder in spring and summer, and Japanese amberjack, crab and northern shrimp in fall and winter. The rice bowl is made with seafood fresh caught that morning, and thus diners can enjoy a rice bowl that both looks and tastes different every time depending on the season and timing."

  • Shoya no Yakata

    Ishikawa Pref. Suzushi Mauramachi 10 - 1
"A restaurant located in Okunoto operating out of an eye-catching old Japanese home with a thatched roof. ""Shoya no Yakata"" means ""house of the village headman"", and as its name implies, the building was once used by a line of village headmen before being moved here and remodeled. The interior decor also exudes a sense of extreme age. From the restaurant's tatami mat seating area, diners can watch boats traveling between the nearby islands on the ocean when the weather is clear. The view of the sun setting into the ocean in this area has been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful in the country and is a must-see. The restaurant creates dishes using Noto beef and fresh seafood; its specialty is the seaweed shabushabu set meal. The most popular item on the menu, however, is the Noto beef steak rice bowl topped with a rose of tender Noto beef. In summer, the restaurant offers oyster dishes limited to just a few customers each day."

    Ishikawa Hosu-gun Notocho Yanami 27-26-3
This small inn, operated by an Australian chef and the Noto-born proprietress, accommodates just four groups of guests a day. It is situated on a hill in Yanami on the Noto Peninsula, and on clear days, guests can see all the way the Sea of Japan to the Tateyama Mountain Range. All of the inn's rooms are Japanese-style, and everything about the establishment, from the wooden beams spanning the ceiling to the views of the sea and the inn's Japanese garden visible from the windows, exudes a faintly nostalgic air. There's also a handmade outdoor bath in a corner of the garden where guests can soak and take in a view of the ocean sprawling into the distance. For food, the inn serves Italian cuisine made with local seasonings and ingredients from Ishikawa Prefecture. The inn takes great pride in hospitality which enables guests to truly experience Noto - for example, works of art by local artists are displayed in the guest rooms and dining room.

This was the highlight of our holiday. Beautiful surrounds, lovely decor at a special place in Noto. Chikako and Ben are passionate and proud of their place, and so they should. Delicious food...
