Opened in 1837, this history-leaded establishment is the oldest Japanese confectionary shop in Komatsu and has even appeared in literary masterpieces. The shop’s famous Sekkato is a favorite of people who enjoy the tea ceremony. Other popular products include the mildly sweet Matsu Koboku, which contains a chestnut at its center; and the Namikimichi yokan jelly redolent of the fragrance of uguisumame sweetened green peas. The shop also holds Japanese confection making classes and can give you advice on making old-fashioned Japanese sweets.

A Japanese confectionary shop opened in 1852. The shop’s signature Tsukiyomi Yamaji is a yokan jelly with steamed chestnuts which has the faintest aroma of bamboo; this traditional confection is an exquisite fusion of delicious flavor, quality ingredients, beautiful form, attractive colors, and enticing scent. Also recommended is the Hime Kurumi, a sweet provided to Shirayama Hime Shrine, once the most important Shinto shrine of Kaga Domain; and the Joyo, the ultimate Japanese yam confection.

At lunchtime they offer reasonable platters and lunches.

This restaurant started as a tofu shop in 1948 and later operated as a general store and a restaurant before resurrecting ikki soba, a local soba noodle dish native to the Torigoe area, in 1981. Operating out of a traditional old Japanese home with a working water wheel, the restaurant serves the Chosuke Gozen meal, which is particularly recommended. The hearty and healthy meal comes with seasonal vegetable and edible wild plant tempura, kata-dofu hard tofu sashimi, a nimono stewed dish, a seasonal side, rice, Japanese pickles, and a small serving of soba noodles.

Delicious handmade soba using lots of local ingredients. The building is old and traditional and very peaceful. My favourite is the Ikko soba lunch set, which has mochi in the soba!

The community-oriented center has a market selling seasonal, locally harvested agricultural products, and also makes and sells foods using local ingredients, and visitors can purchase old-fashioned mochi rice cake, tsukemono Japanese pickles, soba noodles, vegetables, and more. The center’s fun soba noodle making class takes around one hour. Advance reservation required.

  • Sushikuine (Komatsuoki Restaurant)

    Ishikawa Pref. Komatsushi Okimachi 8-7
"The Komatsu Okimachi location of this conveyor belt sushi restaurant chain which operates in the prefectures of Ishikawa and Toyama. The restaurant's seafood is shipped straight from Kanazawa Port and Himi Port. Aiming to serve authentic, high quality sushi, the restaurant uses select seafood and the composition of the sushi rice is changed depending on the season and weather. Besides standard sushi favorites, many of the selections on the menu are seasonal, such as midwinter Japanese amberjack, spear squid, and female snow crab, and one of the biggest appeals of the restaurant is that you can enjoy these truly seasonal and ephemeral tastes here. The menu primarily consists of sets of popular sushi such as the ""Kanazawa-zukushi"" and the ""Himi-zukushi."" There's also a fish tank in the kitchen to ensure the restaurant can serve truly fresh sushi varieties."

The Matto main location of a conveyor belt sushi restaurant chain operating in the prefectures of Ishikawa and Toyama. In addition to sushi made with select seafood straight from the port, the restaurant also serves vegetable sushi such as avocado, and shiitake sushi, and pressed sushi topped with lightly pickled eggplant and cucumber. The owner particularly recommends the 10 and 15 piece nigirizushi and tokujo first class nigirizushi sets. The restaurant offers lunch sets from Monday to Saturday (excluding holidays), three out of four of which are limited to a set number of customers per day. All are reasonably priced and come with nigirizushi and arajiru fish scraps soup. Diners can also enjoy fresh made sushi in comfort by making an order using a touch screen which will then be delivered via a high speed lane.
