Kanazawa Higashi-rou Shima was built in 1820 in the Kanazawa Higashi Chaya District, and the building to this day hasn’t been altered and remains as it was during the Edo period. It is highly valuable as cultural heritage and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The guest rooms on the second floor are structured for the purpose of merrymaking: if the guests sit with their backs to the alcove, the front becomes an anteroom, and it is designed that one can enjoy dancing and artistic accompaniment if the fusuma (Japanese sliding screens) are opened. You can have traditional Kanazawa sweets together with green tea in the tearoom, “Kanson-an”.

"A five minute walk from the ""Hashiba-cho"" bus station on the Hokuriku Railroad Bus and JR Bus lines from Kanazawa Station. This museum is dedicated to gold leafing, a traditional industry in Kanazawa. The museum was started by Takaki Yasue, a gold leaf artisan who collected gold leaf artwork and tools and built a hall to display them in Kitayasue. Due to the aging of this facility, the museum was moved from the hall to its current location in Higashiyama in 2010. The museum building was modeled after a traditional Japanese townhouse and is accented with gold leaf. The domed ceiling in the museum's hall, decorated with no. 3 pure yellow gold, in particular is a must-see. The museum contains exhibits and video displays which show how gold leaf is made and applied, as well as gold leaf works of art, and visitors can learn about the history of gold leaf production and view dazzling examples of the craft."

Great antique houses with shoos and business mixed. A community showcasing their products. Gold leaf workshops as their champion. Whats more, it is free admission, too.

It is located on the east bank of the Asano River in Higashiyama, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The old-fashioned town remains and along the main street and back alleys there are old town shops characterized by a lattice called “kimusuko”. Many of the stores currently are Japanese restaurants offering Japanese cuisine. In the evenings guests can hear the sound of the shamisen and taiko (Japanese traditional drums) coming from the houses, and feel elegant Japanese culture.

A shop owned and operated by the Hakuichi gold leaf company. The shop operates out of a remodeled old public bath building in the Higashi Chaya District, a charming area where many old Japanese homes and teahouses stand side by side. Making use of the high ceilings of this former public bath, the shop's open and airy sales space is filled with a variety of gold leaf-decorated crafts. Particularly popular items include the shiny gold leaf cosmetics and oil blotting papers. The shop even has free test products for customers to sample. Many customers are also sure to order a cone of soft serve vanilla ice cream covered with a sheet of ritzy gold leaf.

Gold leaf did not taste like much, but it was an experience that you don’t get all that often! Icecream was simple soft serve, but the eating was part of the adventure!

This Buddhist temple is counted as one of Japan’s three greatest Marici (Buddhist goddess of war) temples, alongside the Tokudaiji Temple in Tokyo and the Zenkyoan Temple, a sub-temple of the Kennin-ji Temple, in Kyoto. The temple enshrines a statue of Marici which was used as a protective charm by the samurai general Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of Kaga Domain. Standing at the midpoint of Mt. Mukaiyama in what would be the unlucky “kimon” northeast of Kanazawa Castle, the temple was built by Kaga Domain’s chief vassal Toda Shigemasa on the order of Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the domain. The grounds offer a sweeping view of the homes along the Asano River as well as the Higashi Chaya District. The five pine trees standing on the temple grounds served as material for a novel written by Kanazawa-born author Kyoka Izumi. The temple is also famous for its sunsets, and even Japanese literature researcher Donald Keen once praised the scenery visible from the site.

The Chaya District near “Asanogawa-ohashi Bridge” in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture is also where the mansion of Toda Kazue Shigeie of the Kaga clan once stood. The area flourished as a pleasure quarter from the Meiji era to before the war and still today is a town of many town houses with latticed windows and cobblestones. There are a variety of Japanese restaurants and tea houses, as well as café bars reusing the old town houses and at dusk visitors can hear the sounds of shamisen coming from the houses. This is the town that became the stage of Hiroyuki Itsuki’s novel, and there are many spots related to the literary master Kyoka Izumi who was born in neighboring Shimoshin Town.

A lane following the Asano River from the foot of the Asanogawa Bridge along National Route 359 to the Tenjin Bridge. The 600-meter-long lane follows the river’s south bank, and there stand a statue and a monument of Taki no Shiraito, heroine of Kyoka Izumi’s famous play, “Giketsu Kyoketsu.” Izumi lived in Shimoshin-cho in the Kazue-machi Chayagai located on the south bank of the Asano River. The Tenjin Bridge, the lane’s endpoint, also appears in “Giketsu Kyoketsu.” Covered in the shade of the surrounding buildings for most of the day, the lane matches the literary mood of the Izumi, whose works of fiction took Japan by storm, and many literature and opera fans make their way here.

"This cultural museum conveys the teahouse culture of Kanazawa to the present time. The museum building is a typical teahouse that was actually used during the Edo period. The first floor is used for art exhibitions and displays the luxurious colorful hairpins once used by Geisha. The second floor is a spacious drawing room, with vivid blue and red walls. The courtyard has a beautiful ""suikinkutsu"" (a buried earthen jar that makes sounds due to dripping water), also not to be missed."

The cafe is located in a corner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs-designated Kanazawa City Higashiyama-higashi Traditional Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The first floor is a shop which sells sweets made by Nakataya, a company famous for its kintsuba sweet beans wrapped in flour dough. The second floor is an old Japanese home-style cafe space. The restaurant's ""kimusuko"" projecting lattice windows and red carpet create an elegant atmosphere in which you can relax and savor original sweets.
