This metal casting shop has over a hundred years of history, since its founder Risaburo began green sand casting processes here near the beginning of the Meiji period. They continue making each piece one by one by hand, preserving traditional techniques while adding new ideas. They make a wide variety of popular items, including tea ceremony items, wine buckets, flower vases, door handles, trinkets and more. This shop specializes in traditional Takaoka lacquerware and other crafts. The shop is popular for their wide range of daily use goods like tableware and trays, vitamin cases, iPhone covers, business card cases, accessories, and more. Their rings and earrings (which can transform into clip-ons), made with three dimensional structures of mother of pearl, are adorable accessories made with Takaoka's traditional lacquering techniques. Their lacquered sake cups and trays are also beautiful.

Toyama Areas

around-area-map

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
