  • Ohnoya Takaoka Kifunemachi Main Shop
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Toyama Pref. Takaokashi Kifunemachi 12
"This Japanese confectionary established in 1838 is a seven-minute walk from JR Takaoka Station's North Gate. Their famous ""tokonatsu"" sweets have been their flagship product since the Meiji period. These soft gyuhi rice cakes are stuffed with sweetened bean paste made from rare bitchu-shiroadzuki beans and sprinkled with wasanbon sugar that evokes an image of white snow. Take one bite and your mouth will be filled with the sweetness of the instantly-melting wasanbon sugar and the delicate fragrance of fine white adzuki beans. One of their most popular items is their Koshino Yakamochi, created to celebrate the shop's 180th anniversary. These rice cakes, made from glutinous rice from Toyama Prefecture known for its high viscosity, are stuffed with sweetened ultra-small Kurosengoku black adzuki beans."
  • Marunaga Meat Shop

    Toyama Takaoka-shi Awara Machi 13-31
This meat shop has been a local favorite for around 50 years. They offer croquettes made in an old fashioned iron pot at cheap prices. They're made without additives and fried fresh on order so you can enjoy yours piping hot! They also sell other fried foods that are perfect for a snack, or for your dinner's main course.
  • Hiromata Kamaboko Fishcake Shop
    Shopping
Toyama Takaoka-shi Futazuka 198-3 Futa Tsuka Food Park
This shop has been making and selling Toyama's specialty kamaboko fish cake since its founding 1896. They insist on hand-making their fish cake from fish caught locally in Toyama Bay, with clean water from Shogawa River and natural salt, without any artificial preservatives. The fish cake made according to their traditional process is firm and toothsome. We particularly recommend the Toyama specialty Akamaki Kamaboko and the certified regional product Kombu Maki Kamaboko.

Toyama Areas

around-area-map

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
